The Elixir afOpium is not only superior to
tho artificial compounds of Morphine, in its be*
ing ante mild, permanent and uniform in its ef*
feet-, hut the preparation possesses also a sunei
ri-ir advantage to lhair Solution*. in not being
liable to decomposition 1 or deterioration from
variable temperature or lung keeping: a sorb
oils objection to which tho latter are expnsod.
Finally, Mnrphino, not being tho foil repre*
sciralivo of Opium, cannot alone, and that in
artificial combination too, produce ail tho char*
net eristic effects of so triumphal a remedy, when

repealed trials of your 'Elixir of Opium’ in
tho City and Marino Hospitals, and find it to
possess tho anodyne and sodative powers oftho
ordinary preparations of Opium, without pro
ducing iho excitmem, lieadinche, nausea, and
constipation, which in many cases render those
preprations objectionable. Its effects arc more
