be the duty of tho said superintendent of streets
and lnnes, every day in tho week, (Sunday
escopted.J in such manner, and commencing

See. 5. Be it further ordnined, that the mayor,
or a majority of the atreat and lane committee
aro hereby empowered nnd authorized to ro*
quire the said superintendent to wutk upon the
squares, streets, and lanes of tho city, distinct
and sepnrito from any other duties prescribed
by this ordinance, anil the said siipetiiiioiidsni,
shall, upon such requisition, atteud with the
necessary carts, burses, utensils, and drivers,
at the time and place designated, mid personally
superintend tho directions he may requite for
(hut purpose.
Sec. 6i Be it further ordninod, that the own
ers, tenants, or occupiers of house* shall keep
within their vurds or enclosures respectively, u

be deposited all the offal, filth, rubbish, dirt, and

such size, which may die or be found dead with 1

at least six feet under ground by the owners

and at his, her, or their own expense, which
burial shall tako place within two hours after
the death of such nnimal, unless such dcuth shall
happen in tho night, in which case such dead

And il shall be the duty of such superintendent,
at tlie request of the owner or any other parson,
or whenever any dead animal shall bu found
ntty where within the limits of the city tore
move, end bury the sumo without delay, and
the said superintendent shall bo entitled to re>
ceivo for tho uso of tho city, from the owner of
any such duud animal,for remoyeingatid burying
the ?amo, the following fees, viz: for a hog,dog,
goat, or calf, one dollar and fifty cants; for n 1
a horse, cow, or other largo animal, throe dol’
ats; mid tho said superiiitendunt shall make a
quarterly return to the city treasurer of all mo*
uuys received by him for the uso of the city, and
fbnii pay tho same to the said treasurer,
Sec. 8. Bo it further ordained, That every
keeper of an inn, tavern, or stuhle within the
city, amt every other person within tho city,
who shall keep, have the management, care, or
charge of more than four horses, mules, oxen,
or cows, or such number of horses, mules, oxen,
or cows a* together exceed four hi number, in
any one stuhle, yard, or other enclosure within
tho city, ho,she, or they, shall remove or cause
to bo removed at least, onco in every twenty*
four hours, at hi*, her, or their own expense, all
the dung, filth, or liltor mado, and caused by
keeping tho aforesaid animals, to such place* as
may be pointed out for the deposit of tho filth
nnd rubbish removed by tho superintendent of
streetsand lane*.
Sec. 9. Be it further ordained, That every
house-holder or ocoupant ol u iiouso shall keep
the yards, collar, enclosure, or preutisos so oc,
cupted, clean nnd clear of ami free from all pu*
trid and slinking water, or ether putrid or of*
fonsive matter, nr thing whatever, and it shall
he the duly of every housediolder or occupant
of a house to throw into the privies attached to
their ynrds or enclosures, a peck ot a siiliiciciil
quantity of lime once n month during tho months
of May, June, July, August, September, Octo
ber mid November.
Sec. 10. Bo it further ordsinod, That for any
violation or omission of the snid superintendent
ofany thing directed to bo done by this ordinance,
tho said superintendent may bo fined by iho
ntnyor, chairman, nr aldermen presiding at the
police court, or by the mayor ami aldermen in
council nsiemblod, in any sum not cxcooding
one hundred dollars for ench offence, and the
said superintendent may for any flagrant violai
lion or omission of duty, bo suspended by the
mayor or acting mayor, who shall report tho
samo to council, mid the said council may re*
move tho said aiiporindont front office or inflict
such other ponnlty as tiny may deem pioper.—
And whenever the said superintendent ahull bo
suspended or removed, tho mayor or noting
mayor shall nppointsomo fit or propor porson
to net as superintendent, until such vacancy be
