Case of the schooner Catharine.—The] atten*
lion of the pablic has oflnte bean so frequently
called to this vessel, and tne circumstances
undor which *he hn* been captured end sent
into Now York, that we ore happy to have it
m our power to publish a correct statement of
tho matter. Tho facts ura simply these:
The schooner Catharine, YVnv 8. Wedge,
master, wan despatched from Baltimore early
m May lust for Huvana, tho captain having in
■truciions ,0 t vn,u * uponono oftho most rcvpect
able houses there, and to sell the vessel provid
ed u suitable prico was offered for hors—other-
who, to accept of any good freight for the United
estates, giving preference to a direct employ-
mem to Baltimore. Tho consigners Using un*
siicctitMlnl in thidr ondoavors to procuro u puri
chaser at tho captain's limits, recommended him
to a ship broker, as a person better «uitcd to
enable him 10 accomplish a sate. With the aid
of a broker, a bona fide rale was mnde of tho
vomoI, tho contruci ratified, the money paid,
and romittancea regularly foiwardod and receivi
ed by the agont« and owners in Baltimore.
Lappuii Wedge, having deposited hi-< register
with tho United 8tutcs CoiiniiI, and received
from llio Consul, a icceipt for Ihe rogulnr din.
charge nfhis seamen, and the payment of three
months extra wages according to law, returned
direct to tho United States.
lloro ended till connection oftho original
ual owners of the Catharine with this vessel or
her subsequent voysgo; and such being the fact,
they could havo no agent to uct for thorn in any
binmiHiM in which Ihey wore not in ihe most
indirect manner concerned.
The Consular nnd other documenta submit-
ted to our inspection, prove the correctness of
what is here alleged, and wo are sotinfiod thnt
tho transaction, so fur as the parlies hero are
concerned, has b«en one ofs correct and men
cantile character, and that no suspicion or cent
sure should man way rest upon them.
