Fanny la altogether a remarkable creature. Wo wore schoolgirls tog other, as you know, and vory good irienda. Fanny waa a eonecientioua acholnr, and alwaya " hid her loeeiona." Sho waa dolicato looking, but aa mucularand nctivo aa a doer; waa food ol rambling in tho woods to gather flowers, and could out-walk all her school mates. Sho was sometimes a Hula too old maidiah lo suit mo and many others—moreoapoclally tho beau* who wish* cd to ingratiato thomselvoe into hor favor; aho alwaya sent them to the right about iu double quick limo. and pitched their boquota out ot tho window. Fanny dressed the moat taatelully of us all. Sho eould tio a ribbon, put tho bows and flowers nnd feathers on a bonnet, cut and mako an apron, altor or fit a drees, arrange a collar, or darn a stocking hotter, and mako a few ornaments and a shin ward robe go further than anybody olao 1 over saw.— Whenever any of us girls st school or st homo wantodto dross particularly nico, wo would put Fanny's taste and handiwork into requisition ; and although aho seldom attended parties hcrtoil, she used to take much pleasure in " filing up " her friends for such momeotous occasions. Sho wn very fond of children, with whom she was a great favorite, and she is so still. She seems to know them thoroughly, and they sot-ni lo know her. Sho would quit the gaycet cirelo at almost any time t«* dress a doll or eover a ball for a child, «*r t«» have a g-'od pl»y with the lutlo folk generally. After we were married (I wus married first) wo dJ not see each other so otton. Fanny proved an excellent housekeeper. contrary to the predictions ol some of her acquaintances Her liu«t*and was a splendid man, and 1 u*vd t<* think 1 never saw s i fine a couple as they when they canto into church on Sundsy. They had three children, the oldest of whom died when about six years old. I’oor Fanny! Tho death of her little darling almost broke her heart. She ia a most affectionate and devoted mother, and it took her a long time to recover front the shock. Our Jessie died not long after, and was buried near dear Fanny's little one ; and we used often to visit their graves nnd weep there together. During these hallowed communing*, I learned to rcsjrect nnd love Fanny more than ev-r. 1 have never become acquainted with an* other such a religious nature as has. Thursday Morning, Feb. 22. BY TFLEQRAPH FOR THE 'REPUBLICAN. LATER FROM lit'ROPE ARRIVAl. OF THK Tho death of her husband was a terrible blow to Fanny. They loved each othor dovotedly. For Somo months 1 was afraid she'd go crazy, but her tru*t in Provideoco sustained her. Then came yean of poverfy, and sufferings worse than pover ty ; but of this enough has been said by others — Even in those dark days, Fanny’s taste and judg ment, her dexiority with tho needle, and her facul ty fur makiug a little go a great way, cnatded her always to mako a good ap|rearanco at homo and abroad. 1 have seen her ••(ten lock quite queenly when her whole wardrobe could not have cost as much ts tho fan, or the collar, or the bonnet, or tho pocket handkorchiof of somo "ftno lady" who was porhaps envying hor appcarauco. Her tint) form and gracofu! earn ago ot courso helped her a groat deal, for aho has ono of tho lincet forms 1 oversaw. Her face is not hnndsomo ; bat sho is to good-hearted, a* frank and aimplo in hor mmi nors, so intelligent and witty, that in conversing with her you would never think of calling her homely. That phrenological examination in tho seventy- sixth chapter of'Kuth Hall” would applv to her pretty well, eepccially what is said about ‘‘Ruth's" religious nature, her trust in Provideoco, her son- sitiveneas, her tasto, and her choice of friends. 1 think Fanny nover had any intimate friends; sho is loo oxactiog. If a man should swear in hor presence, or speak lightly of religion or anybody she loved, she would not be apt ever to admit him to her confidence. But that persona! friends sho hi* srs always devoted friends, and respect her very highly. But, dear me, bow 1 am getting on! 1 must stop; so, to sum tho matter all up in a brief space, Fanny Fern is one of tho most remarkable, as well as ono of the best, of women. Her success and her plain speaking havo doubtlcm mado enemies who will try to injure her; but I can aasuro you that you can roly implicitly upon her honesty and goodness, whatever you may hear or read to tho contrary. fXSWV OXOfCRRXOTYrU) Wo take the folio wing from a Boston paper whoeo editor ts probtbly an ascotic: She is full forty, is banny. Nothing, no far ai wo could see, was to be gained by bringing it forward at this early day; whereas, a different policy might, and we beliovo would, result in pos itive good. Tho people of Georgia just now are separating into four political divlelone—Whigs, Democrats, Know Nothings, and Temperance men; —and, without prudenco on tho part of tho conser vative proas, oach of theso divisions may be driven to mako distinct nominations—a consummation most devoutly to bo deplored. There nood not, and should not, be more than two candidates for Governor. Ono of theeo candidates will bo nom inated by tho supporters of tho present National and Stalo administrations; and tho other should bo selected by the opponents ol itioso administra tions. Should this policy bo adopted, there nood not bo tho loast apprehension as to tho result. It was our wish to koep tho quoation upon to tho latost day possible, and not to indicate in advance any choico of tho porson to bo selected aa our standard boaror; but as the press in tho interior is agitating tho subject, and as we desire to bo hoard while others sro speaking, wo dopatt from our original resolution, and doclaro that, that ablo statesman and incorruptible patriot, Charlos J. Had (air dualing boon tho order of tho day, thoro ia scarcely an intelli gent man of oithcr party who must not confess, that Mr. Jenkins would this day bo tho honored Gov ernor of tho Stato. And what a Governor ho would havo mado, with his groat heart, his ftno intellect, his spotless character, and his oxtonsivo knowledge of tho laws, noarly all of which ho has assisted in framing or passing! Wo have looked with interest, says tho Balti more American, upon a controversy that has lor somo day* past occupied tho editorial columns oj tho Washington Sentinol and tlio American Organ, on tho question ol tho connection ol I'olitical Abo litionism and Know Nothmgiam. Tho Sentinel argues that tho Know Nothing or American party in ibo North is Abolitionist, that there has tnen only a change of name and not of principle, and that tho election of Wilson,Howard nmi other nho* litioniMs to the Senate is an unanswerable proof of these allegation*. To this charge the Organ an swers that it i* the object of tho American party to subdue the abolitionists o| the North, not by waging war "gainst their principles, hut by creating other and more important issues before which they will been til- power!#*#. In it* own words, speaking lor th- party it represents, it says : We shall keep steadily in view ill# purpose nf our organization.
