CURIOUS AND IMPORTANT REVELATIONS It I New York, March 1. The New York Herald and Tiniea.of this morn* tag, contain a aynopalaol ihc correspondence which led to tbo famous Oatcnd Conforoneo. The sub- stance of it Is, that Mr. Socreiary Marcy wrote lo Mr. Buchanan, Mr. Mason, and Mr. Soulo, setting forth tho advantages to tho United States of tho acquisition of Cuba, llo alio slated nt length tho reasons which lod him to believo (hat Spain was under strung and poculiar obligations to Franco and England. In his letter to Mr. Soule, ho used very strong language, and instructed him to de mand #300,000 as indemnity lor the Black War rior affair. Ho waa also inairucicd to require pay ment immediately, and intimatod that tho African- ixaiion of Cuba would never be allowed by tho United Slates. In conclusion, Mr. Marcy requested our Minis ter* to Great Britain, France and Spain, to moot at somo convenient point, to consider tho subject. Tho Ministers mot at Oatcnd, and resolved that tho acquisition of Cuba by purchase or conquoe., was necessary. Mr. Marcy, it seems, was not willing to go beyond an offer to purchase; wheroupon Mr. Soule resigned, fooling that ho had boon troated with indignity. The correspondence, of which tho abovo la only a synopsis, is very voluminous. Tho matter has created a profound excitement in political and commercial circles, both hero and at Washington. k’ROn WAMUJKiTON. Washington, March 7. Forty-two Senators and ono hundred und eighty Representatives have signed a lotter to President Fierce, requesting that ex-Sonator Shields, who distinguished himself in tho Mexican War, l«o ap pointed one of tho new Brigadier Generals. The municipal election at Alexattdia, yesterday, resulted in the election ol the Know Nothing ticket by 500 majority. The town elections in Massachusetts are neatly unanimous in layor of tho Know Nothings. It is stated that Jefferson Davis desires tho ap pointment of Brigadier General. Tho Mayor and Council of Washington city have presented Senator Dawson, of Georgia, an elegant Silver Pitchor, in acknowledgment of his efforts in behalf or tho intoresta ol tho city. It is stated that a conference has been hold bo- twoon Col. Kinney, and our consul to Central America, Mr. Fnbcns, relativetto the Mosquito mat ter, and that no obstaclo exists to tho immedtato prosecution of the enterprise. Tho expedition, consequently, will sail soon. Ail hopes of tho safety < f tho U. S. Sloop-of-war Decatur is abandoned. Nothing has boon heard of her since she sailed from Rio, and it is supposed she perished in tho hurticano which occurred short ly after sho loft. Washington, March 8th. Ben McCullough, says he will send in his resig nation as Major of one of the new Regiments, as be considers his single appointmeniffan insult |to the class bo intended to represent. The frigates Congress and Constellation, are shortly to be sent to tho Mediterranean to relievo the squadron now thsro. FROM HAVANA. New Orleans, March 7. He his received formal addresses Iront a largo num ber ol tho momboraof tho Potm.ylvanla and Now Jorsoy Legislatures, and his opinions upon tltu present condition of tho country aro asked for with all imaginable gravity. So lar lias tho oanvaia boon carried, that Mr. Law hai written along letter, defining his position, and pointing out tho ovils of tho times, and tho uttor worthlessness or txlsting party organisations, llo thinks tho Whig and Domocratio parties havo served Ihoii day— that thoy aro impotent for good—that they aro offoto and corrupt and Uocropld—and that tho country and tbo titnos require now organisations with irosh life and strong impulses, with young blood and athletic limbs. In other words, ho would sweep away tho political cobwebs which tho old orgnnlxations have hung upon the arms of the young Republic, and to do this, he would roly upon the American party which la now springing into Galllornln Intelligence. | Tho "Star ol tho Wcsl" has srrlvod at N.
