Wr have rtrtnfce weaihsr here for this season of

with oold, tempestuous winds. The month, con
trary to all precedonts, was ushored In upon ua by
worm, balmy breezes, and gonial, sprlng-llka sun
shine. Alnsdy gardeners have commenced tho

oold and freezing nights of Jauuary and February
prepared tho ground admirably for planting. Tho

and pulverlzod by tho plough-shsro. These
things portend abundant crops tho coining saason, j
and tho pooplo wero novor in groaior need of thorn ‘
In this part of Georgia.
Tho prico uf cum and flour ranges high in tho
mountains at this timo. Flour, of tho best quality,
commands at tho mill |5 and 65 50 per hundred
pounds ; and corn and com mosl from 85 cents to
$1 por buthol, and scarce. Thore Is littloor no
wheat in tho market, though 61 50 to $1 8° is (roo
ty offered for it.
The wheat crop is looking badly. Tho early
spring will rapidly imp! »vo it; and should tho
weather continue warm and seasonable, field* will
soon wcarn thrifty napoct.
Our walla, In this village, have nearly nil dried
up, and there is great scarcity of good, whole
some water; ono well having to suflice the wanta
of a hall dozen or more families. This condition
ol tilings was never before experienced bore, and
is doubtless tho result of tho long continued dry
wouther. But littlo rain has fallen horo during tho
winter, and scarcely any Inal summer and (all.
Although money matters arocloso with us, there
is not that stringency that prevails in tniddlo and
lower Georgia. Wo do not grow cotton hero to
any great extent, and have not to depend on it f >r
tho moans with whielt to pay our debts. Tho salo
orilioiion-salo of "tho crop" does not effect uur
monetary affairs in any great degree.
Our country is exempt from disenae— is distress
ingly healthy, and tho disciples of Baculupius wear
long, lugubrious countenances, in consequence.
Tlioro is a greater demand lor corn rnoslanii bacmt
than lor "drnps" and pills; and 1 li. pn tilt* may

driven to seek out other employments by which to
obtain a livelihood. Doctors will not liko this
sort of talk, hut tho pooplo do, and hiving their
sympathy on my side, 1 can afford to speak inde
