We nude a atatement, to ahow how un founded waa its charge, that we had ** shouted eloed in triumph at the result ol the New Hamp shire election," but we made no explanation, hav* log dooo nothing requiring explanation. It now appears (hat the Georgian'a chares was predicated upon the caption of certain extract# from other paper*, in regard to the election! That caption waa, M The Administration Defeated in N*w Hampshire"—and upon this heading we were accused of “shouting aloud" over the result!!! Wo aro told that "the N. Y. l\*st has elwaya been dirtingaishrd for its fierce assaults on the Administration." Now, our recollection is, that tbs Post gave Mr. Pierce a warm support aa candi date, and since hie inauguration hat accotdcd the Administration a general support, except in its Territorial aod Cuban policy. The Frceaoiliam ol the Post no move escludes it fn>nt being consid ered an "organ" of the Administration, than the lata (and perhaps present) secesaiomsm of the Georgian would exclude it. The Georgian also vouchsafes the information that it is responsible for what appears in it* col umns. We are obliged to it for tho information ; with ibis pledge on record, we doubt not it will be careful hereafter to see that there it some founda tion fur its chargee betide the caption of extracts from other papers. We are charitable enough to believe that the short comings of the Georgian are the recoil of political infatuation, rathor than o 1 deliberate design. The Teuperauce Candidate for Gov* ersaor. The Rome, (Ga.‘ Cooper lakes ground against Mr Overby, the nomine® of the Temperance P*»* ry for Governor, and calls upon the Augusta Chron icle, the Milledgcville Recorder, the Colombo* En quirer, the Lagrange Reporter, and the Savannah Republican to e-une out and define their position, and citlier denounce or dtfuod the course of Mr. Overby. With all respect for our cotempo’ary of the Gautier, we must be permitted to s*y that what ho requires et our hande-thal is, either to denounce or defend Mr. Overby—is just what we do not in tend to do, et least for the present. Tho courto indicated by the Courier, is above all other tbinge, precisely that which the Johnson party dotire tho republican press to pursue. Suppose the paper* reierred to should denounce the Tcmporsnco can didate, they might emshbim: but in duiogeo, they would drive his friends into the ranks of the Ad- minietrstioo. Aod on the other hand, if they slmuld defend him, it woold only be playing into tbehaodao! the opposition, by giving them an op. porteuiiyto appeal to the extreme anti-temper ance men, and enlisting them on their side. Our advice is to let Mr. Overby alone,"moat se verely." Bay nothing for or agamst him, or about him. This is the surest way to bring him down ; for be cannot bat discover ere long, that be is a candidal# without a party. As for ourselves, we expect to support the nomi nee of our friends, whether ho bo Jenkins, Daw- non, Stephens, Andrews, Trppc, or sumo other equally worthy member of tlu party. Wo pro turn* a convention will be held by those who are opposed to the present .State and National admin istratione, and according to the present lights be fore as, to quote the sage of Kioderhook, their candidate will be our candidate.
