Tho cotton waa shipped soon alter it was weighed and brought to New York. The bales were then in good condition, and wero all carted iu <>nu day to the storago house of the plaintiffs and deposited there in printo order. They remained there sev eral months, and st length wore ordered to bo re moved. In the process <-t removal it was discov ered that many ol tho bales wero shorter than others, and deficient in weight, and a close ex amination showed that seventy-seven of them had been apparently oponed near tho end, a strip of cloth a loot in width, extending entirely round the bale, cut out, and a corresponding quantity of cot ton removed. Tho bags bad then been carefully sewed up again, as ihosoam across them indicated. The rope# <. f all these short boles were cut and found lying bosido the halos.
