It will be eecn that tho manager has kindly vol
unteered tho uee«l the Athemeum. tins evening, in
behsllof tho Tableaux Committee c-mnocivd with
the Orphan Fair. It uppeariug that tho exprniQ of
gelling up (ho Tableaux, whicii have Leon ex
hibited at St. Andiuw's Hall the past week, was
greater than had been anticipated, Mr. Crisp, upon
being waited on by the Committee, desired to
make a contribution of $.V», nr tome other equally
liberal sum. Tho Committee were Unwilling, how
ever, thus lo lax Ins generosity; whereupon he
proposed a joint exhibition of the Tableaux and
the Drama at the Athemeum (hut evening^half of
tl)p proceeds of which should go to iho Orphans, ho
paying all tho expense. This liberal proposition
was readily accepted, as will be seen by reference
to the card ol the manager in this morning's paper.
Such liberality deserves to he imitated by tho
public, and as there is no belter way to do if than
by filling the Alhcntrxm, it is hoped it will be
done.
We learn with much pleasuro that one ovoning
this week will be set apyt lor the benefit ol Mr
Fuller, whose acting thia season has given so much
satisfaction. Ho expects all his Iriends, (under
which term is included everybody who has hcen
at the Athennura thia winter,; will do their whole
duty on this occasion.
Arrest ol a Mrgro Stealer*
A few days since a man by the name of W. A.
Everett called at the Guard Barracks, and offered
a reward of $20 for tho apprehension ’of a negro
man, who, he stated, Ind run awnv fr >jn him. A
few nights afterward', ho was seen by thu Police
talking with a negro who answered the done upturn
he bad lilt at tho Bnrrncks, tho day ho offered the
reward. Tho iiav alter this conversation be called
a second time, ( to ascertain whether any thing had
been heard of tho negro. This conduct very
naturally excited suspicion, and inuucdiatn steps
were taken to arrest them both, which was soon
effected, the negro bong captured Thursday nigiig
and Everett Saturday night. Since their arrest,
Mr. Adolphus Rutherford ol Columbus has arrived
hero, and Sjiya that tho negro belong* to him. Ac
cording to Iho ataternent of the negro, he lo it fils
owner in September l am, and it in supposed that
'Everett, between whom and himsoll there appears
to boa good understariding, intended to sell him
at the first lair opportunity.
We are in possession of some, other farts but as
tho cgtt will undergo nn Investigation before the
Mayor this morning, it is not necessary that we
should make them public. Everett nays lie in a na
tive of Stewart county in this Stato.
