The same or very naaly the same schedule has been adopted, as that heretofore run—via: leavo Savannshevery Tuesday aud Saturday morning, and return on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tho 8t. John's will continue under command of Capt. Freeborn, and the Seminole undor command of Capt. Pcateli, both of whom aro too well known to require any commendation at our hands. Tho mail sorvico between Savannah and Florida, with porn on tho route, hat alwtys been wall perlornted, aud wu now bavo in the character of tho officers and boats just filmed, a satiffaciory guaranty that such will continue to be the esse. The schedule goes into operation the lit of July next. We Icern also,that Mr. H. L. Halt,the present popular proprietor ol tho atsgo liuo between Sa vannah and Darien, haa received the contract for carrying the mail by stags between Tampa Bay and Palatka, Fla-, and that his line will connect at Palatka with the Seminole and et. John's, thus vs tablishing direct communication between Tampa and Savannah acroe* the peninsular ot Florida.— The contractor is now in Florida, making arrange menu for commencing this service, which begins aim the 1st of July. rsr Col. U. .Magazine, that Dr. Thurnwoll, President of tho South Carolina College, will address the Lit erary Societies of Oglethorpe University, at the Commencement in July next. We regret to learn that the veteran, Com. Hen* ry E Ballard, U. S, Navy, died at his residence, noar Annapolis,on Wednesday night last. Ho was over seventy years of age;and had been in a deli cate auto of health fur some time past. Recently he recovered from a severe attack n| pneumonia, but suffered a relapse, which caused his death. Com. Ballard was a native of Maryland, and en tered the service on the 2d of April, 1804, over fifty.one years ago. Ho received tho commission, which he hold at the timo of his death, on tho 3rd of March, 1828, and served eighteen years and eight months at sea, and fifteen ycats and nigh* months on shore duty. Ho had not been at sea since 1839. As an officer, he stood high in tho estimation of all connected with our gallant Navy, and was universally esteemed as a man and a citi- xen. A bottlo was picked up last Sunday week, on Sandy Hook containing a letter purporting to be written by John Edmondson, supercargo of the British brig Edwin, Capt. StillwAter, bound from Havana to London, stating that the said brig was captured by a piratical schooner, called the Shamrock, on the 13th of March, all hands except hirnsclf murdered, and the vowel burned, having been rifled of all her valuables. Tho letter is dated on board the Shamrock, lit. 38, Ion. 69. Ottoman Empire,by J- W, Brown, Esq , who is connected with our embassy nt Constantinople.— Lieut.
