an interview with the French and British Minis
ter*, in which he suggested that the Conference
should reassemble. Tne representatives ot France
and England could give no reply, but should their
governments content he would again attempt to
arrange the third point. Berlin papers say that
these mediatory proposals leave it to Russia sod
Turkey to settle themselves, the number of vessels
etch shall keep in the Black Sea, whilo they fix
the number which Franco and England inky keep
at two.

met this morning. On motion of II. Green of
Piko, Judge Day of Junes took ihn Chair. On
motion of Col. Do Grnffenroid of Bibb, a commit-
too of threo from each Congressional District was
appointed to select officers ‘for tho Convention.
That Committee reported Col. Gardner of Augusta
Prosident, fivo Vice-Presidents, and Mr. Hriacoo
of this place (one of Gov. Jubnson's Secretaries),
and Edward Tracy, Esq., of Bibb, Secretaries.
Col. Gardner addressed- tho Convention. Ho
said it was a cheering spectacle to soo the great
Democratic party assemble in convention, to sus
tain those principles upon which tho Constitution
of this country waa founded. Ho contrasted this
Convention with that Assembled this day in Phila
delphia, computed of thoao who came, from al
parts ot the Union, Ohe public could not tell whom,)
and who cumo togolber for tho purpose ol advoca
ting principles that were opposed to the letter and
spirit of the Constitution. He alluded to the pro
gress of the Know-Nothing party, which had
■wept in triumph over the Northern State*, but
which when it enmo upon the frontier* of the Old
Dominiun,ahowod by its defeat, that it was in an
insalubrious otmoiphero tho moment it catno South
of Mason and Dixon's line.
