Editirt of lie Savannah Republican:
Gentlemen: In accordance with your request, 1
would state that 1 think the quantity ol land culti
vated thia year, in this county, in cotton, is st
laaat one-third lew, in corn one-third more,
and in rice about the tamo quantity as last
yaar. Our corn crops are splendid, and if
nothing unforeseen happens to disappoint our
preeeut pr-.apccts, we shall be able to aupply
those . counties that may be in need of this
grain. The cotton crop ia rather backward;
it is not fruiting well, owing to too much rain.
I suppose there are from 75 to lOObalee of the
old crop still on hand. Rice pretty fair.
Cotton blooms made their appearance here on
the 8th inst.
» Very respectfully yours, W.
Montezuma, June 14.
Edilort Savannah Republican.
Dear Sirs: The crops in this portion of South
Western Georgia are by fax better than they have
been lor several years previous.
From the be*t information the quantity of corn
planted in thia section is from .10 to 15 per cent;
greater than ever before. Wheat crops are over
. anaverage, fnow harvested.)' Oats are hardly an
average crop#, in consequence of the length of the
drought at the titneHhey were making. From this
point we ship in a season, Irom 10,000 io 12,000
bales coilon. At present thero are hut 52 hales in
- atore, and none comparatively speaking in the
country around this. The pr< wore of money end
high price has prompted every farmer to hurry
iwoiton io market. Tho county is very well
•opplied with breadstuff's. There ato at present from
10,000 to 15,000 bushels of corn more than will be
needed fi r consumption in this section.
... Your. E.W.J.
. Oauj^ttoara, 15th June, 1855.
Editor* Savannah Republican :
Dear Sir: Tho crop- in this coonty aro looking
very firm. I have this day seen more cotton
blooms than 1 have scon for msny years at iho
same period. Our faim-rs have generally planted
heavy com crops, and about as much cotton as Iasi
year. Wheat la all boused. Oats will be abun
dant. You cannot sen a farmer now who docs
not have s bright cuumcnar.ee. I do not know of
one bale of old cotton io this county.
Respectfully yours, M. J M.

Thie wainodlshonor.bat adjity. He could not
oonaent to pretermit eome eipreeeion of opinion
upon the question ol slavery. It was the main pur
pose of the Order to maintain the Union, and this
vii the only question which threatened It. The

presentod in a speech of ability and power.
Ho was followed by Mr. Poo, of Georgia, who
.coincided fully in evury doctrine advanced by Mr.
Burwell. and enduraed every sentiment and feeling
uttered by him.
Mr. Raynor, of North Carolina, next succeeded,
Ho presented a serio# of resolutions, embody ing
ami aMerting that tho representations ol tho South
that tho Order wa* Abolition, and tho uholliionitits
of tho North that it waa pro-alavory, had no war
rant ih fact— that it was neither tha ono nor the
other, that it ignores tho whole question ; that it
recognized tho Union and the laws under it, and
that it left whero i: properly belonged—to tho lo
calities whero it existed—the entire legislation on
tho whole question. Those distinguished proposi
tions wore elaborated With great eloquence and
power, and, being eminently conciliatory in ion©
and temper, addressed themselves, if not to tho
general approbation, at least to tho general atten

Ho waa followed by Mr. Sammons, of Now

in circulation.
A correspondent writing from Zamora, under

Zamora. Tho scourers had brought intelligence
th.it l'uohlila had fortified tho place and w-uuld

they wero received with groat enthusiasm; business
was resumed, and everything waa rejoicing, anima

At 6 o'clock in thn evening, new* was roceived
