Tha top m doin, well, ye, | niM „. 4wl , ho d „„ Georgia Platform mon who despise tha baas pro- posal and the party who mndo it,wo propose to giva hit enquiry an answer. The question is as fol lows: " That Georgia should bo "ono people and one party," there can be no question. Hut why ntsy not this ho accomplished upon tho plallorm adopted by the Democratic Convention t il its principles are sound and commend themsolvcs to truo State Rights men and to every Iricnd of the Union—if they are those io which the poonlo ol Georgia, ol all parties have pledged themselves, in the most solemn lorm, then it is the'part of wisdom, patriotism, and policy, that all should unite in their support, and thus preserve our alliuuco with tho sound men of tho North." Wo rendily concede, and for fi»o yenra have maintained, that upon the platform of I860, tho pooplo of Georgia should bo "ono people and ono party." This groat, conservative truth, however, seems to have just broken in upon tho minds of the Johnson party, and in what a silly attitude do they proeont themselves before an honest people, alter having louglit and denounced that platform for years aa a "rotten concern," and a 'base aurrundor," in coming forward at this lain day, when their former faction is gasping in articulo mortis, mount ing the despised structure, and inviting the men irAo Aiuv always been on it, to rally to their standard! Does tho history ol tho world furnish a parrallel in effrontery aud impudence ? Again ; whence tho necessity for such a union t The only roason we havo seen alleged by Gov. Johnaon, or any one olse, is that the South may present an unbroken front to our enemies of tho North, and that we should sustain our friends in thut section of tho Union who have stood by ua in the fiery struggles of tho past. Tardy conclusion on the part ot those who assign them, but what do they amount io coming from the source they do t To the first we answer: The only party in Geor gia that ever opposed the platform, and prevented an “unbroken front" on the part ol our people, are note on 11, and tho spectacle of a harmonious action on this question is already 'presented to the eyes of our enemies, anil Io the wotld. There can bo no mistake at the North upon this question. To the second wo answer: Your justice and fraternal spirit towards our friends in tho demo cratic ranks at the North have been about at lardy as your perception of the political beauties ol tho | Georgia Plallorm. How wonderfully are the I intellectual nnd moral vision both bnghtoned in the hour of danger! The truth is iho men whom i jou would seduco by this specious consideration I into your own ranks, aro already tho friends and | supporters ol those patriotic northern Democrats | who havo maintained tho constitution and the j rights of the South Wo stood by then, when you inuloriously, mid heartlessly abandoned them to i destruction under the iron heel of a treacherous • Administration. Who, in Georgia, were the friends 1 ol those nobie spirits, Dickinson, Bronson and their little band of democratic patriots when they were proscribed and trodden under foot, and dipiniMcd Irom office by tho mongrel Administration at W asningion, and tor no oilier reason than that they ri-luaed to nlfilatc with abolitionists and bow the knee to the .Moloch n| freesoil l Wo repeat the qiltra- lion : who were they f L-> k over tho flies of your papers and sc" where these noble men whuwero lighting the buttle# ol the S mill, single handed and as 'disorga* party, and where forged teller* were published io fix upon them ignominy and disgrace. We dare you to the invest! gallon ! and, in proof of our assertion, aro readv to bring forward our own files .-hewing that those same men at tho N<>nh lor whom you seem sud denly inspired with a paroxysm ot gratitude, were cheered on hi their nobio work, and upheld and sustained by the entire conservative press of our Slate. These are faett, and cannot ha denied.— While, then, we agree wnh yoi^that those men at the North are sound and reliable, and intend to stand by them to tho hitler end—what confidence • can we havo in your co-opcra4on—whtl assur ance, since you once descried ihcm in the hour of need, that you are too go.-d to do it again I {Set tle this question among yourselves. Thus tar "iir objections have been confined to the lad cone'timely established by tho past history of tho party, that these pledges sro ntsdo solely for the purpose ol catching votes, nnd that tho men who made them arc not to Ini trusted for their re demption. On tho other hand there are positive objections to your platform that aru insurmounta ble obstacles in tho way of it- adoption by n largo majority of the conservative men of tho State.— Tho endorsement of i’o-rco, w ho has betrayed the Smith by sn infamous leaguu with her Ircesoil enemies, from the day of Inn inaugural to the pres ent tune, is enough to drive from your ranks every honest democrat in them, mueh L-m to deter conservative men from s- eking admission.— Thu Administration in a pigmy in aiZ", hut a mill stone in weight to any party that may be guilty of the folly of saddling theui-elvos with the burthen. The day will n»me when you will realizo this fact to your sorrow. Again: if you were sineere in your desire to unite the people of Ge<>ra a for the protection of the Souih, why the resolution denouncing that my friend feared the bugs still existed, and would commit larifier depredations. He said they were driven off by a heavy wind and rain, some ten days ainee. Should this scourge, no severely felt in Florida and ia tom* localities clusa along on »be seaboard of Georgia visit th* interior, it will make sad havoc and blast the otBerwfee rather flattering prospect of a fair aaa island crop. * Houston, Heard Co., Ga.,21st June.’ftft. Meter i Editors Savannah Republican: Gentlemen In the vicinity ol thia place, the proportion of land planted in cotton thte year, 1 think, is fully one*b>urlh leas, than ia usually plaoted.
