Conclusion*.
Tho abovo describ'd hits .Nos. 53. 53anil21. arc ncord-
lug to my opinion of the highest vntiio as mineral lauds,
end Inferior to norm either lu tho District of Fighting-
town, or even ill Ducktown, Tennessee. The assertion is
based u|khi tho fallowing facts:
1st. These lots aro included in tho great mineral for
mation which traverses DuckQiwu mid Fightiugtown,
uud which promises, within the limits of n short future,
to borotno unrivalled III the world. Till* cupriferous re
gion is about seven mlhs long nud averages three In
breadth, and throughout this extent is traversed by n
number uf ronfirnuible parallel, or pearly parallel,
lodes, sotuo of whieh. as will lie seen from tho furcgolug
report, run through Urn ahovo mentioned lots. This sec
tion uf country, restricted ns it may appear to a super
ficial observer, vies to give to the State of Georgia a
sourco of never-falling wenltli, which will contribute im
mensely to her public nud private welfare aud to her na
tional glory.
2ml v Thesu lots nro situated on good . mining ground,
and tho veins on them nrc well defined nud clearly
marked by their surface ludlcatlonN nud their sectional
profile. Besides these propitious signs, llie most certain
of all possible indications of tho proi.eiice of copper has
netuall9 been fauud on them, iimncly, tlm mineral Itself
in abundance. Thesn ores hnvu been essayed and ex
amined by myself, and soipo green carbonate from lot
50 furnished :tl 2-100 pr. ct.uf copper, sonto yellow sul-
nliuret from the same lot furnished 22 7-100 of Cu. Tlm
lot No. 63, although undeveloped to any extent, gave
specimens of yellow Hulphuret worth 10 DM00 pr. ct.,
anil Is traveled by tlm rich vein coming from No. 20,
from which black oxy dent 23 (VbltWpv. ct. of Cuts W

al jilnces varies from 12 to 15 feet in width, mid is Im
mensely valuable; It traverses diagonally the wholo of
tho lot No. 53. From thl* mine, oru of a shlpablo vuluo

Tho dlstnnco from our lots to Iho rnllmid ntCh.irlcs-

of thu ores being shipped with splendid returns to the

imrlsoii with tho European copper mints, many of which
have been worked forages, mid ton depth of near two

from thu Cornish mines, and when smelting furiinces,
such ns the ono which has been successfully established
of latent Durhtawn will reduce the ore 00 or 70 nr.ct.of

andof Itoxlng. tho value of tlmso mines will be increased
fourfold to wliut they aro worth to-day. 111 relation to
tho benefits to bu realized by reducing thu oru before

Hniierlnt.-nileut or several iff tho mines, I fl id Hint lie
feels curtain of realizing better profits from the present
and future working of tho mines than 1ms ever been done;
ho writes me tlmt tho Eureka Mining Company have Just
started a small smelting furnace nt tlielr mine which 1ms
boon In operation for two or threo weeks at nn average
consumption of not more than flvo cords of wood per day,
which hns produced two tonsiff regulusor nig copper per
day worth f-0 per cent, of copper; this 1# done from oro
worth 8 to 14 per cent., which will pay $2aQ,QQ per tun
nett ill Baltimore, that I* it will pay the transportation
from tlm miims to Baltimore nnd leave nett $250,00 per
ton or $500.00 per day, Hut* making far tlio Coinnnny
over$150,000 per year with a very small expenso in labor
and ftiol. Tho success attending this ojicmtloii has in
duced tho other Companies near them to commence pai
ring up similar smelting concerns, and somo of them
tnoro extensive.
Seven of the mines now working iti tho same neighbor-
houd.prodnco from 1,000 to 1,600 tons of oro, worth from
17 to 22 per cent, per month, width has for the last year
been shipped to tho Northern cities nnd Eurono to bo
smelted. A much larger amount of this description of
ore conld liavo been produced lu tho sumo tinm If tlio
owners had desired to do so—this you will see fan ve* nt
tlio mines nil tho lower grades or ore* os uuavailablo, this
description boing 'nt least four times as largo ns tho
quality that hns been shipped, all of which can now lm
inndo nvnihiblo, with the cheap furnaces now being put
upatthediffarent mines my calculation for tlu* higher
grades of oro as above, I huvo purposely left below tho
true amount ;J learn from undoubted authority In the
•nmo letter from NIr. Congdon, that lie will ship this
month 600 Ions of oro of n high grade, nnd liavo been In
formed that from Copper lllll alone 300 tons or oro of
this grade was shplncd In September last.
