Wo tiro glad to sue that the admirable adaptation

Of the adaptability of our poorest lands to tbo
profitable prosecution of this business, there can be
no doubt. It is well known that lauds of little
value, and Worthless fur most agricultural purpo

pasturage is afforded them by tliu scanty herbage
that springs up iu tbo fi*»ures of the rocks, and

Thu bumdits which would result from tho con
version of our poor lands into sheep pastures tnuj
be summed up n* follows:
First—It would itiiincdintcly increase tho value
of worthies* property by makiug it Useful.
Second.—JCxpcrienco proves tbat tbo rank and

native condition, are speedily extirpated by sheep,
and thu! in n abort time they enrich the land on
which they feud to such u degree as to greatly on*

Third.—The profit* Accruing from proper atten

our citizen* are now engaged, n* is shewn by tbo

Our readers have nlreudy been apprized, rniys

Union nt the next session nf Oongrvss, will receive
one iiiillii.ii and three hundred thousand acre# of
public land, don fed for the purpose id construct

Tho discussion had upon this bill wn* brief, but
in-trm-tive. it seem* tlmt n Smillmrn Democratic

Wo allude t<> Mr. Biggs, <*f North Carolina, who

to the whole policy nt ruilrmid grants, mid wished

Mr. Foot,a Vermont Black Republican, "thought
it entirely loo loir to rni«o objection* tn thj* policy.
The subject hud been wry elaborately di-eilssod
nt the last session, when much linger grant* bad
been mude ttinti those contained in the bill before

Mr. Swart, (be great Democratic Ini d-grabber
