STIEIIE JHSSIBIP SSjtWMm nl) Paper pul, lihrd on the ttanin Ic Hriinswlrk Rnilr.nd between BrunNwirk and Kaxtiiiiin. THE SKWING MACHINE BWIN DLE. Judge Gilbert's decisive cot on n a Tewing machine ca„e tiied before him in Brooklyn will be very generally com mended Tbe ngent of a sewing ma chine company bad sold a machine to a person on what is known as a ‘dense ” The payments under such a sale are to be made by installments, but tbe ma chine is enly “leased” to the purchaser the payments ore designated as “rent,” nnd when default is made, if even on tbe very last installment, the agent steps in, reclaims tbe machine Hud re tains all tbe money that has been paid upon it. This one-sided baigain is a cheat on its face, and besides, a large addition is generally made to the hon est price of tbe machine when thus sold on time. In the Brooklyn case the porehnfifT had paid eighty dol!trs, whrrj failing in meeting an installment, the machine was seized and carried off ly the agent. Tbe victimized purchaser brought suit to recover the amount he had paid Judge Gilbert imtmdiutcly directed the not unwilling jury to give plaintiff a verdict for the full amount will) interest. The counsel fur the company pleaded for delay. “Not an instant,' 1 was Judge Gilbert’s reply. This is treating these dealers to a little of their own medicine. “Not an in stant, ’ is their reply when a purchaser asks for lime. The Brooklyn decision will probaby cncourago a number of jersenswho have lost Lotb their money and mochinos by such sharp practice to attempt to recover either the one or the olbcr.— New York Tier aid.
