THE JESUP SENTINEL* Offie in the Jtsup IlmiS", frOnlintj on Cherry Strut, two doors from li rood S>. rnUllilitd every Htdnwla) *>' T. P. LITTLEFIELD. JEST'P, GEORGIA, MAY I*. !H77. Wliilo in Savannah we accepted the kind hokpitalitr,’ of our friend Carr, the polite ond gentlemanly proprietor of the Planter's Hotel. Our advise to all visiting the city is to give him a call. Vrtu tan get board at the O' mitral aam *ftwo dollars per day. We spent a couple of days in Savan nah lust week and had the pleasure of a short call at the Morning News office. But was distppointed in not meeting the proprietor, he being absent at a pic nic. Hope you bad a pleasant time Mr. Estill. Next wo called on Mr. Geo N. Nichols who has sustained unite a loss bv a recent fire. But the ener getic Mr. N. was hard at work and all nrouttd him busy. His foreman, Mr. Thompson, politely showed os through the printing department. Mr. N. has some very lino presses and he doe* the finest of job work. Mr. Thompson, who has (tad a great deal of experience, showed us some roller composition which we should judge to 100 very good. All in need of such will do well to give him a call before ordering else where. Jin. Editor: —ln my communication of tbo 9th instant I did not intend or wisli to invite discussion. But as I be lieve thouuands of dollars cm bo saved annually to the poor tax-payers of Georgia by a Constitutional Conven tion, and that tbo opposition to it is strong in some sections of our State T thought then, ami believe now, that we will have no child’s play in this matter, especially after having nearly ■ half the life knocked out of the Conven tion side of the question by the late proclamation of the Governor, which re sulted in the election of the Ist of May. These are some of tbo reasons that prompts!! my first communication and not those arcribcd to mo by ‘'Wire Grass.” He says lie objects to my prop osition to run more candidates than those regularly nominated. ‘‘Because, if there is any way in the world to defeat the coming election, it is by carrying out “Pinoy Words’* preposition, to demoralise the district, get a great ma ny to the polls who will vote fur till oth er reason but to satisfy tbo extremely eager and aspiring candidates.” Now 1 do not supposothnt any ono could think I intended or desired tbo demorolizi tion of the district, And for the satis faction of “YViro Grass,’ I will now stuto that I only meant a fearful lethar gy prevails among our people, and that we need an awakening, and the quick est and best way to get it is tor the people in their own way to bring out the'r candidates, good and true men, and let them stand before the people on their merits and the views they cutcr tnin of the issuer - volved in the cam paign. Then, and not until then, will you got the full vote of tbo district, which will lie necessnay in the coming election. If “Wire (5 rass” supposes the reforms and measures proposed in our present constitution sufficient to arouse the people, I will simply refer to the election of tbo Ist of May, when out of the seven or eight hundred voters in Wayne, only ouo hundred and fifty seven voted. Nor did 1 intend in any manner to impeach the patriotism or good intentions of the few who partici pated in the primary meeting bold at Jesup or elsewhere- I only said m sub stsneo them, and say now, that •fifteen men (among whom l can claim the bon er of being one) can hardly bo prepar ed to act satisfactorily for one bundled ami fifty, unless the power to do so had been delegated, which no one can clam had been done in Ibis ea.-e. But [ pass on and will make a few statements to quiet tbo apprehensions of “Wire Grass” in regard to myself. Now mind keep cool and don't get very ‘ badly ex cited,’' “Piney Woods,” did not expect or ask anything nt the hands of the Convention, nor do ! believe any true man could scarcely desire to assume the responsibility that delegate involves by any eflorte of his owe. There are ,nioro than one good and true man in the district that a respectable number of voters would like to have as eaudi ►dates, and if they could be brought out U ask again, why not V I'IKRU: COl \ TV SIIMUFFS SALE.
