The Ordiuary, A J. Sdekland, is in receipt of the policy Dr a risk on the Court House, insuring fr twenty-five hundred dollars annua ly. Last Saturday there was about forty or fifty bales of cotton bro ught to the depot f"r shipment, in payment for gu ano bought last spring. Mr. J dm Aulcrson, Jr., killed a large rattle-snake last Saturday near town. The snake was five feet long, had six iattles and a button. There was a vast differeuca between Inst Saturday and the Saturday before, here in our town. There was a good turn out of the f rm rs fr m the sur r tin ling country, and d-me a good deal of trading with the imrchants Alcxandrew Minsbew was desp rate ly burn: in the face, one n' 2h t last week, I y the exp'osion of a kero-one can. We wns honored with an invita'ion to attend Mr. John J. Smite's school examination, lust fiiday about four miles from town. There was a great many spectators present. Af er the examination of the school, Mr. Ji iiu, J. with his pupils and the aid of ilie many spectators, commenced singitg, which was kept up until la'e in the evening and conducted with great S' iimnity. Mr. J. J. Ritch, of this county, who purchased guano last spring of Messrs. Weods & Cos., through their agents, D'cksrn & Byrd, is d'sirou3 that the firm an 1 their agents should know that providential causes renders him entire- ly unable to rnci t prompt payment. Mr Ritch asks indulgence a week or two, or until the water falls, so that he can get his coiton to the gin. He has this cotton out and ready for the gin b it 'high waters cuts him off. It is with pleasure that wo announce the addition of another member to the profes*ionnl corps of Blaekshear. Dr. W. E. Fraser, of Lockport, i!'., who, being unable to stand the rigors of a Not thorn dime, seeks a home in our midst. The Doctor informs us that he is a graduate of the Chicago ,\b dical College, and has served a full term at Mercy Hospital. This seems to sup ply • want long needed, and as we ten der the Doctor a hearty we'cimo, we can but prophesy for him a prosperous future, aid for Blaekshear, a valuable tddi'iiu to btr already pleasant society BAXLEY NOTES EY 3.
