It was sent in too late or it would have been published this week, We bear it rumored that the prison ers that the town cou cil had at work on the streets, lias hern pardoned. We would like to know who took the liberty t*9 do so, and if it is according to law. Rev J. II Easley, au Evangelist from Savannah, is stopping in our flourishing little town, and we hope that all will avail themselves of the op portunity to go and hear him, as he does not show any p riiality towards .either white or black. .An enquirer disires to kuow if a •■man has a great many debts, are they mot so much to his credit? If so, wo will have to credit a good many. So acome and settle by cash or get your acoounts credited and receipted iu full, -s we are tired of keeping them on our fbooks. P I'KSSML. There is a strong desire among the people 'to have the Election prec'uct of this district moved from Pendirvis, No. 3, M. R. It., to this place, and there is a petition being very nu nteroudy signed, asking the County Coanukeeioners to order au election so that the-question of removal or nnn rctnoval aau bo set tied.. Mh. Editor:— Te-day the County Convention convenes here for the pur pose of nominating a candidate for the next Legislature. This is a grave and important task, as upon the next Leg islature divolves the task of carrying out the will i.f the peoplo iu the form established by the late Constitutional Convention. A good many names have already beeo mentioned in connection with Legislative honors, and, doubtless, quite a number will be brought before the Convention, and while it may be hard to give general satisfaction, we be lieve it may be done if the delegates, coining as they do, from the people, will lay aside every personal considera tion and come up to the naked ques tion of who will bo the b st mat) fir the position ? In order to answer this question satisfactorily, let us examine closely the character of ths tueu offoied Do they respect and reverence the law of tho land ? Have they intelligence and talent to repnseni faithfully the best interest of their people? If they are liking iu these qualification*, it will not do to entrust them with office. Ex ercise the same care in selecting public servants that you would in employing a plow-inan to cultivate your farm aud then and not until then, will you have honesty aud economy in guverement. Let us, by all means, entrust our best men with our offices, for you may be assured a mao will not support a meas ure that is not in harmony with his feel iogs and accordance with his manner of life.
