Members of the Order in good standing are fraternally invited. IV. H. Whaley. W. M. LOCAL ITEMS. We understand tbe Atlantic & Gulf Railroad Company is doing a better business than it Las ever done hereto fore. Go to W. H. Whaley & Son’s to buy a good cheap suit- We are glid to ee that Mr Weiss is again ab'.e to be up aud about his bu> sines*. We would like to know what has be come of etir correspondent at Gardi. (Oom-c, Robert, give an account of your* ■self. We wish some of our friends that is due tjs for board would quit being care tful as to how they pass us, and kick t'be selfi-h boot off of themselves before throwirg it to some otic else.. Front the number of customers we always sec in the establishment of W. H Whaley & Son, they are doing the l est business of any firm in Jesup. These cold nights, remarked a young tnsti tbe other day, makes a fellow con- Aider the matrimonial question very se riously. It’s enough to make one think something. It must matte tbe servants feel bad to bavo the old woman to walk in and squall out, -‘silence,” just about the time they get started good on some old familiar hymn. The late frost reminds us that Messrs “Whaley & Son has just no ived a lot of blankets which they are selling cheap. A couple of our country friends came to town last Monday, went to one of our bar rooms, purchased twenty-five cents worth of “pop-skull” and then demanded a couple of fifteen ceots drinks as a treat for speuding their money with mine host. We heard two men sav last Sunday that they were willing and ready at any time to stop ihe sale of liquor in Jesup. Only three more wanted to come up and then we can have peaceful times. Come up gentlemen and let’s put a stop to it. We are reliably informed that on the 22nd of October one S. A. Westbcrry eloped with his wife's sister, carrying with l.im his littlo son. He is supposed to have gone to the “land of flowers.” We have been requested by agf . i man. to say that any informatio .s to bis whereabouts will be gladly received. Our efficient barber, John Grant, has now gone into tbe business on rather a large Beale. He has purchased a fin e barber chair and has in store everything that is necessary in a first-class barber shop. He can be found in au off room of tbe Abamaiia House. Col. John C. Nichols, of Blaekskcar, will address the citizens of Wayne on the political issues of tho day, at J esup ,on Tuesday the 20th inst. We be speak for Col, Nichols a large audience, as bo is well known and much esteemed by our citizens. If you do not want to miss a good thing come aod hear him Now is the time to subscribe for the Sentintl. We would say to adverti seis, both ia Savaunah and Macon, .’that it is tbe best medium they can advertise in from the fact that no one fpassing this place fajis to see i'. We keep a large number of copies f-r tbe purpose of distributing on the cars, for the benefit of our advertising friends. The town council met on last Monday f r the purpose of selecting anew mar shal. It seems ns ilmugh there has been considerable trouble in regard to getting oue that would attend to his {business. They selected Mr. Bennett to act in the future. Mr. Bennett ia a study, sober gentleman and will doubt dessgive satisfaction, Don’t fail to come to Jesnp on tbe 20ill iost. Hon. G. J. Holton, of Ap pling and Col. John C. Nichols, of Pierce county, will address the citizens of * ayne on the political issues of the day. They are both very intelligent ora ■ tors and you may expect something fine. Rev. A. Clark will receive our thanks for a couple of potatoes weighing four pounds each. This goes to show that Mr. Clark is cot only a good Minister, but that be is a good f.rmcr too, and understands how to make his own pro visions instead of depending on the West for them. If we only had more. A father or mother who desires t > tee 'heir bus tastefully dressed, hou!d go to K. Heidi’s and get one of those beautiful suits at a very small expense. The question of how to dress at the minimum expense bas been praeticaby -ved by* Mr. Ueidt. Not only boys but men’s suits can be had, also bats of the latest style. When going to Sa vacnab, don’t forget to call on Mr Heidt, aod we guai.otee satisfaction. VOTIVE ! V'STICE ! ! The undersigned will addrnss the citizens of tbe Third Senatorial District as follows Jump, Wayne Cos., Tuesday, Nov 20, Soriven, “ “ Wednesdny, “ 2l> Patterson, 7 1-2 Thursday, “ 22 Elackshenr. Pierce. Cos., Friday, “ 23 Schlauterville, 13. & A. It. R. Sat. “ 24, Satilla S'ation, *• “ Monday, “ 26, Waynesville, “ •- Tuesday, “27 G. J HOLTON, Candidate for State Senator, 3 Dist. We are very sorry indeed to have to say anything about the little unpleas antness that took place between two of our eitizms on last Friday, but being a member of the journalistic fraternity, we are looked to by tbe community at large to have something to say about it. Not knowing any tiling in regard as to what caused the disturbance, we ■ will simply state, for the information of the public, what w-s related to ua as the cause. It seems as though there was a little misunderstanding about a bill of mer chandise that Mr, Massey presented to Mr, Weiss. When Weiss told him that it was not a correct statement he (Mas sey) cursed him; whereupon, Webs, not feeling able to protect himself, pre.-eot ed him to the town authorities Mr. Massey was tried and fiued. A‘ter the trial it seems that Mr. Massey left the court room and came up to Weiss's; store, which was near his own As Weiss went to unlock the doer Muss y struck him on his head and face sever al times, disfiguring one of his eyes very badly. After lie had knocked him dowu he kicked him. bruising his body to a considerable degree. M". Weiss is a very delicate man, entirely unabie to fight evuen a child, and it is conddered by the ciiiz -n gen erally, as a very shameful act up-'n tbe part of Mr. Masscv. The above is about as correct an r.e count of the fuss as we have been able to ascertain. Mr. E. 15. Chipman presented to us one day last week while in Savannah, a sample can of shrimp which ho is hav ing piep-ired Dear tliat city. We pro nouDce them good, and will say to Mr. Chipman that wo heartily congratulate him in his new business, aud hope that he may run it suecesfully A CA KM. We the undersigned do hereby cer tify that liev. A. Clark has resided in Jesup a little over five years. During that time he has cotiduoted him'elf widi gloat propriety, and lias proven himself to be a Minister and gentleman of high character. lie has in no way shown himself to be an aspirant for political promotion, Ilis name was carried be fore the late nominating Convention without his knowledge or approval. We believe that the delegates entertained tbe opinion that lie would not accept, if ho should receive the nomination; and wo think that they were pledged to vote for other men before tbe Conven tion assembled. The vote ca>t on that occasion in norespict indicates his standing in Jesnp or Wayne county. Dr. W. S. Middleton, Chairman Nomi nating Convention; Z. W. Little, M. D; R. F. Lester, M. 1); L. The hriige over the Ouio river o- ;,,t been completed, and tha city anxiously awaits the passage of the necessiry legislation to enable it to vote the two millions necessary for the completion of the ro,d. A Word to tlie Enquirer. We have, in the past week or two, received several communications in re gard to Jesup and the section of coun try surrounding it. To such we will say that Jesup is situated at disjunc tion of the Atlantic <fc Gulf and the | Macon & Brunswick Railroads 40 miles from Brunswick and about 57 from Sa vannah; it is in a comparatively level 1 country, and one that, with a little in dustry, perseverance and proper mai - | agement, could be made a splendid farming country. Cirn, potatoes, pin ders, etc , are abundantly raised. The society is as good as any town I of its size can boast of, in this or any | otlnr State. AVe would say to such persons as may desire to locate in cm 1 midst, that if they should travel the I country over, they would not find a bet ter location than can be found here. We would be glad to see as many come into oursectiou as would like, and are willing to become good citizens AVc extend, iu the b’half of our citizens, a hearty welcome, and say couie on. A\'e were glad to meet cur genial young fricud aud correspondent, Mr. B. B, Hopps. Brack looks well and hearty, and has the appearance of being accustomed to good keeping.
