Companions in good stand ing are fraternally invited. R. F. Lest sr, M. E. H. P. JESIP LODGE, NO. 113, F. & A. M, Meets third Saturday in each month at 2J clack p. u. Members of the Order in good •tending are fraternally invited. W. H. Whaley, W. M. LOCAL ITEMS. The election is over and politicians can now go to work. Jaok Frost has about used up all of the flower gardens in this vicinity. Won’t there even be a church enter tainment or sociable held iu Jesup oq Christmas ? Sheriff Goodbread is busy with bis tax hooks, and it working hard to col leet and advertise. There was a concert given in town last Thursday evening, by a bliud man. What a scalawug that man was,” exclaimed Bots Tweed as he read the Vanderbilt will ease. If you want to kuow bow popular you are. ruu for office or ask one of the nu merous defeaied candidates. Why is a side saddle like a four quart jug?—Because it holds a gall-on. The best way to avoid §vil habits is to cultivate good ones. If you want a good fashionable suit ofeiothiugat 810 and upwards, goto Whaleys. Connecticut men fall overboard from Sound steamers aud swim ashore with out saying a word or making any fuss to worry the captain. Cbristin*B is only two weeks off and aud nothing has bten said about it. Who will be the first to advertise Christmas and New Yey,rs goods. Joaquin Miller goes crazy about a lady’s baud, but whea it is her hus bands foot he sees uo romance iu it. Vice-President Wheeler has fouud that a man cou be oue of “the firm,’ and yet he kept down cellar marking boxes. Any Nevada husband who beats bis wife cau be publicly flogged for the of fouse, but if a wife beats her husband everybody laughs. The Christinas turkey, appreciates the fact that his day* are numbered, and now seeks to find a roost on the highest trees. Let’s see: There were forty-eight buttons on the fashionable pair of kid gloves up to yesterday noon. Has the style changed any since then. A presiding elder in the North Georgia Conference, gave a good rea son why a brother who proposed to en ter the ministry should b admitted, he said his brother published a newspaper and made a living at it. They took him in. We return thanks to Mr. J. N. Mil ler. the popular agent of M. & B. It. li. at eight and a half for some of his red top turnips, the largest of which weighed six pounds. Who can beat it. In Norwalk Conn - , recently a Dr Many was married to a Miss| Clock. Many puns might bo perpstrated on this marriage, but wc shall dismiss the subject with the hope that this one Clock, haviog been converted into Many, will never "run down" nor strike—her husband A "solid South” bas been found as far North as New Haven, Conn. She is a young lady, a Miss South, who is only fourteen years old, but weighs 322 pounds. Sbo expects to continue solid until! long after tho next Presidential election. When in want of i good bargain, do not fail to cal! at the popular store of L. Weiss, who has just received from tho East, a large stock of l adies dress goods, clothing, hats and caps boots and shot s, faDcy goods and in fact everything that is usually kept in a first class store, which he offers for cash cheaper than goods were ever sold in Jesup or surrounding country. Do not fail to give him a call. We understand that the postmaster at Blacksbier, refuses to receive the Sentinel from the freight train unless accompanied by a certificate from the postmaster at Jesup, that the postage on it bas been paid. For his informa tion we will state that the only reason we transmit our paper by freight, is to put it into the hands of onr subscribers as soon as possible. As far as the post age is concerned, we always pay that. A bloated bondholder lately ejected a suitor for his daughter’s hand from his bouse, and Las not allowed him to speak to the girl since, simply because be said she had a silvery voice. The story may not be true, but the Chicago Tribune tells it. and says, moreover, that the old man is so incensed that he positively declines to fix a day when the young gentleman may resume the pay ment of his addresses. Anna Gowne, of New York, is nndet arrest for highway robbery. She’s a bad nights Gcwnc. The following letter was found on the street and haudad to us, which we copy verbatim : Jesup, Ga., DeC 5 the 1877. There are some doing it who have no fat hogs of their own, but fall iu “love” with their neighbors. A clerical frieud urged Vhately much for an opioion as to his reading of the church service, and he said t last, “Well, then, if you really wish to kuow what I think of your reading, I should say there are only two parts o! the service you read well, and those you read faultlessly.” “ Which are they?” “They are. ‘Hero endetb the first lesson,’ and ‘Here endeth the sec ond lesson,’ for those are the only parts which you read in your natural voice and and manner, whh-li are very good; the rest is all artificial.
