Messrs, Whaley & Son are selling five pounds of coffee for $1 00, and D. S. Bacon 10c a lb. The full returns of the late election, are as follows : For Ratification, 72,- 723 majority; for Homestead of 1877, 38,932; majority; for Atlanta, 45,934 majority. It is satisfaction to a mule to know that while he cannot soar as high as the lark, he can sing just as loud, and kick very much sorer. Mr. John Triplett, th popular editcr of the Tiiomasville Times, was in our town on Saturday night. You are not neighborly brother Triplett, for not calling on us. The Masonic Lodge cf cur town, will have a Sociable and Supper on the 27th inst., BDd extends an invitation to their bretbreu in good standing. The entertainment is not public, only given by tbe Lodge to the member* and their families and invited geests. Whaley & Son have juat received a ■car load of corn at 85c par bushel. They also have on hand and are con stantly receiving supplies of flour which they aro selling at §7.00 a $9.00 per barrel. S. R. A Chicago clergyman has preached n sermon against the sin of ladies per mitting shoe-store clerks to button their shoes for them. Any clerk io the hardware trade will agree that it isn’t right. The residence of the late Elias W. Seat ( of Tabeausille, who was murdered two weeks a.’O, was desiroie l by fire on the night of the 13th inst. The house had been unoccupied for two days, the fire is supposed to be the work of an iocmdiary. A lady who objects to profanity be cause it is both wicked and vulgar, write* to know wbat she ought to sav when a clothes line breaks, and lets a weak'* waahing fall in the mud. She ought to say: “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth,” but probably she will not think of it.— Ex. Christmas comes on the 25tb nf De cember in Coffee this year.— Pearson Pioneer. The Atlantic & Gulf passenger erain that left Jacksonville, Fla., on Friday evening for Savannah, Ga., run off the track about eight miles from Lake City, five coaches out of seven running off. but fortunately no one was injured. The train wss badly smashed up aid got to this point six hours behind time. Jane Diggs and Harriet Spencer, both dam-sols ot color, had rather a lively set to at the depot in Jesup last week. From pet names they begun to pull wool, when the officers interfered, who brought both Jsne and Harriet before bis honor the mayor, who acted as adjudicator, and fined them two dollars and costs each. Now is the time to subscribe for the Sentinel. We want at least 500 more subscribers for 1878, so that wc will be able to publish one of the best pa pers in the State. We have made ar rangements to publish weekly, the news of interest to our readers from the counties of Wayne, Appling and Piorce, which will be written,up by able cor respondents. Any person sending us a club of ten subscribers, will get hi* copy free. An old mns having an apple-stand on Woodward avenue,j was yesterday approached by a hungry-looking lad who asked : “Say, aiu’t you goin’ to gimme an opple?” “I’ll give you to the Station first!” was the gruff reply?” “You declare war, do you? All right, my old buckshot! I’ll stand right here for the next hour and tell everybody that you spit on your apples and then burui-h ’em on your greaay old coat sleeve. Wednesday aud Thursday evenings, there were a good attendance on both nights. The creditors of Prince Roberts, de ceased, is going for his timber in pay ment of his debts, like black birds upon a rice patch. Mr, ,T. J. Jenkins has returned, and says his child is fast recovering and is out of danger unless it tuxes a relapse. The report in our last issue stating that the child was dead was erroneous. We are sorry that we have never thonglit to matte known to the numer ous friends of the Hon. L. H. Green leaf of his long and protracted spell of illness, that he has been strioken down with, for many weeks; but art glad to announce that be is again able to ride out upon our streets in bis vehicle. Tbe Judge is not, by any means res tored to his former health, Mr Thomas Spikes a son in-lavr of Mrs Elizabeth James (widow) happened to a painful accident one day last week while hauling saw logs, one of the log dogs came unfastened and dropped the log across his legs breaking both of them. He is a young man and said to be a good hand to work. We are sorry to hear of good industrious men be coming maimed, for now is tbe time our country needs them. There was some little excitement here last Tuesday a week past, in fear that Jesse Aldridge aud George W. Tuten, were drowned. They left here on tbe Monday morning previous with only rations for that day to run some timber down to tbe bridge or therea bouts and was cautioned very strictly by their employer to be back that night wiibout fail, which they failed to do,in consequence of getting tbe timber where they coaid not get out of the swamp with the luggage they had tu bring out with them—aod bad to camp on their timber all nighf and work the next day till late tbe evening without any thing to eat. They came to town late on Tuesday eveaiDg all right. Last Sunday was anothcr'occasioncd day for baptism at the public bridge, ’ by Rev. One Mr. Lee, in bis old day*, repents and turns to Christ.
