They have every grade aud quality. Pur the last week, the store of Mr. L. Weiss has be u crowded with cos turners, buying (Jhris'mas presents and other, goods for the holidays. Ho Las by far the finest assortniaut of Curist mas and New Year’s fancy goods in this market, and for the next week will offer inducements which no other house in town can compete with. He sella goods fojr cash, and for fhat reason ho cam undersell those who credit. Call aud pride his goods. Ou Tuesday Dinan Johnson colored was arrested at Tebeauville fot the mur der of E F. Sweat The preliminary examination win commenced ou Wed nesday nod closed Thursday afternoon about half past four wliereupou the court committed him to jail to await his trial before the superior court iu March 1373. The evidence upon which the court committed him was a chain of circumstances dating back as far as the summer of 1576. Mr. Colquitt's mill has shut down for the holidays, most of the men em ployed in it have gouo off elsewhere to spend Christmas. Mr. Charles Harper carried a fine raft cfsquare timber to Darien last week and sold for 89 per thousand. Mr. Win. Strickland also carried, a large raft of square. There were sev eral rafts of scab earrie 1 by different parties. Mr. John T. Strickland list 99 peices of the 200 stick raft ho had toru up about two weeks ago. Something new in town, an oyster and fish saloon, Lisbon Lane proprie tor, a meal twenty-five cents. Ve are pained to chronicle the deatli of Mr. Jwhn J. Henderson’s little son, Keightley, about three or four yeats old, who departed this lifo last Wed nesday night after a short illness. Call on Mr. Nicholls to buy your bibles, etc. llj will be at Rev. Mr. William Lewi-, ‘of Wayne coun ty. departed il is life on the 18th inst., from a long and continued illness, caused by a cancer which he has bad on him about 35 years. Ha was about 57 years of age, and for the last few vears past bos suffered with intense misery from the cancer, bit in all of his suffering ho was never known to ut ter a word of complaint, hot leaned upon the one whom Ito said was able to save to the utmost end of the world. He was respected by all wito know him as a worthy citizen, a kind Husband and a lovioa father. He leaves a large cir cie of friends and relatives to mourn his loss, who extend their heart felt sympathy to the bereaved fam ily, feeling that their los9 on Earth is his Eternal gain in Heaven. j. s o.
