JESUS* ELECTION.
The municipal eh etion, held in our town
on S*turdai, resulted in the election of the
following officers, by maj irities ranging
from 30 to 50 .*

—The neoirdents of Jackson stree*, were
considerably amused yesterday by a real
■Chinese prize fight, conducted on the strict
' oat principles of the Mongiiiao rii g Three
hawkers, with their biskets, w re
s.rying to get ino the yard of a house at the
srame time, to solicit custom. The smallest
of the three gracefully withdrew his oj po
sition, but neither of the remaining ped
dlers would yield an inch. After exhausting
the entire vituperative language known to
the profession, which consists of some four
m : bon word , they laid down their baskets
and doubled up thear fists. They struck out
wildly for some minutes, sometimes coining
almost within a foot of touching each other,
and then, exhausted by their efforts, and
panting for breath, they mutually retired to
a distance of about six yards, and com -
menced a fearful fire of vegetables. One < f
the contestants got two soft tomatoes in the
eye, while his opponent was struck with a
squashy pear in the mouth and nearly blind
ed with a bunch of ripe grapes. For a quar
ter of an hour the sun was darkened by
showers of potatoes, cauliflowers, apples,
carrots, turnips and sprouts, and it was not
until they had both hurled their last string
been that they fl and in opposite directions,
ca'ling on th? god of war to bear witness to
their diuntloss bravery. And (hen the
small but astute sou of nature (who had so
courteously given way at(the outset, at dhad
been watching the ha'tie from the other

could sell, and as be entered the disputed
yard, unmolested and sold the lady (f the
