Accompanying her was her mother a ml
two aunts, all very nervous and very
natch excited.
After much coaxing and Bribing,
she was induced to-seat herself in tho
chair and open her month ; but when¬
ever she es$ the dentist bend over her,
snap would conte her teeth together,
ntui. no persuasion could make her open
her mouth until the dentist ha.I re¬
treated a few feet.
This performance was repeated time
and time again, and at last the dentist
gave lady up -in despair ami called in his
assistant, a member of the firm.
Hae talked to the little girl for u
few moments, and then ask fed' her to
open her mouth. This she did, but
the lady declared that it was only half
open. The little one tried it again
and again, but only found that the
lady ridiculed her the more.
“My dear/’ the lady said at length,
“do you know why you cannot open
your month very wide? It is because
you keep your eyes open. If you abut
yonr eyes you can open it twice us
much.’’
This idea seemed to please the girl.
She laughed, and, shutting her eyes,
opened her mouth as wide as possible,
hi an .instant the lady beat over her
and extracted the tooth.
A scream, ft few “dears” Irons the
mother and aunts, 50 cents in the.
hand of the dentist, good-byes and all
was over.
“Verily,” eayoth the wise wan,
“there are tricks in all trades.”
