JESUP, GA., JUNE 6 th, 1907.
Commencement of

The fourteenth annual .

the auditorium Monday night,
thus closing, as we think, the
most successful year in tli" histo
r y of tilis institution. ^The-e ex
ercises were not so lengthy, per
haps, as some which have pre
ceded, as, apart fom the religious
services held on Sunday, only two
aveuings were devoted to the en
tire program. Sufficient time
was given to these exercises, how
ever, and the program sufficient
ly elaborate, to give the patrons
and friends of the school some
clear idea of the careful training
the pupils had received from their
teachers, and the progress made
by them in their several depart
ments of study.
Friday evening of last, week was
to have been devoted to the piano
recital of Miss Derrelle Coleman's
music class, A heuvy rain fell at
the hour tor this recital, and it
w as postponed until Saturday ev
ening, when the weather was more
favoranl", and the recital wsb giv
en to a large aud appreciative au
dience. Most of Miss Coleman’s
pupil* were quite small, and had
but recently begun the study of
music, but the recital .was pro
nounced by those present as quite
a success, reflecting credit upon
Miss Coleman as a teacher, and
giving evidence of the musical
talent of her pupils.
•Sunday at 11. a. in. a large au
dience assembled at the audito
rium tor religious worship. Ap
propriate selections had been
made, and led by Mrs, J. F. Breen
at the psatto. the choir rendered
some inspiring music, as a fit
preparation for the eloquent and
spiritual sermon wtiich was preach
ed by Dr. Scruggs of Waycross.
Monday evening the graduating
exercises were h"ld at which two
of Je-up’s bright young men, Mr.
Joseph B. Austin and Mr. Leoroy
