Archie L. Shepard’s Moving Pic
tures was the attraction at the Raw
lins theater yeste-tay matinee and
night. At both performances, the au
dience was rather small. There can
be no gainsaying the fact that Shep
ard has the < best moving picture ma
chines, and the best Aims that are tak
en around this sec*lon of the country.
There are some who cannot enjoy 1 a
show of this kind, no matter how
good' it may be, be*, to those who cai,
the pictures were very pleasing and
entertaining. Incidentally, the man
who sang several illustrated songs
during the performance knew what he
was doing and how do it.
To the Members e*f Bethel A. M. E.
Church. Albany. Ga.
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
This will inform you that your at
tendance at the ~egular church ser
vice has been too irregular to com
mend you to Him who holds the des
tiny of men in his hands.
The mission of the Christian church
is to save bad men and women, by
making' them better; by reducing
crime and criminality among the chil
dren of men: but if the records and
repons cf the municipality of this
efty be true, then we must admit that
we have 'ailed to do what God has
commanded us to do, for the report
shows that over 5662 was collected
from criminals and lawbreakers for
the month of December alone. Now.
brother, sister, if you had done your
whole duty much this awful calam
ity would have been averted and the
bulk of ih!^ unholy pecuniary gain of
the city treasury would have been
saved to the poor sinful wretches (hat
came under the law.
The fact that you remain at home,
or some other place when duty calls
and when the time demands that you
be at Sunday school and regular re
ligious worship, places you on the side
of the enemy of righteousness. Why
should !f be said that in a city of
about ten thousand Inhabitants, with
22 houses of religious worship, that
$7,500 was collected by the police de
partment for crime? This is a re
flection upon all of us, my brothers
and sisters, that only God Himself
can obliterate. Why should it be a
burden for you who profess a hope
in Christ Jesus, to remember the Sab
bath day to keep it holy? Your pros
perity will be turned Into famine and
the wrath of Jehovah God will fall
heavily upon your heads unless you
repent of your sins and come down in
saccloth and dust.
