Dolly by Private Wire to Clerk & Go. Now York, Jan. 4.—The Now York speculators today are paying the pen alty of the attempt to make a price for another man'v property. The ag gressive bear sentiment which devel oped yesterday and the day before is resulting in a general covering of shorts, ai^d strange to say Liverpool has added something to 'the strength of the market. The market of this week Is con firmatory o: the position which we took in the middle of December, that Is, that for the time being indications were for variations of 30 to 50 points, that, would afford oportunities ' for traders who aro willing to take profits, always however, preferring to buy the market when it is weakest. There is nothing yet apparent to justify the expectation that the report of the 8h, that can be construed a^ bearish, bat should the market continue to ad vance It Is likely to afford an opportun ity for the liquidation of profitable long contracts. During the last 24 hours, we have boon in receipt, of a large number of telegrams from friends In whom we have the greatest confidence and we think that the feature of the. ginning since early December hns been the light, halos which later on might prove to be an important factor in the total supply.
