New York, Jan. 8.—On the theory that the forthcoming gfnners’ report will Justify furthe* liquidation of cot ton, Now York operators have per sistently sold the market ifor three days and there is now a short Interest accumulated.,The theory of the bear interest Is, that it ft pretty well set tled’ that the crop will be In the neighborhood of ten and a half to ten and three quarter million bales and that with the present visible supply of American cotton spinners are con tent to delay purchases. There Is much Truth in this conten- tlon and tile market awaits the devel opment but there are Indications that there will be some fairly good buying for consumption on the basis of 1114 to 11, cents for March and this sllna- tlon Is likely to contribute to steadi ness for some time to come. Both “esplanade” and boulevard” are military terms by origin. The original “boulevard” was a bulwark or horizon tal part of the rampart, and an "espla nade” was originally the glacis or slope of the counterscarp of a fortified place. A writer 200 years ago noted that the word boulevard was “uow cldefiy tak en for the void space between the gla ds of a citadel and the first houses of a town;” hence Its extension to other "void spaces” suitable for promenad ing. The old French “esplanade” was defined by Cotgrave as “a planing, lev eling, evening of ways,” from Latin “expiannre,” to smooth or flatten out, whence the Eugiish words “explain” and “explanation.” TORNADO INSURANCE Windstorm protection for your property is cheap.
