While the Masons were conferring degrees, a timid knock was heard at the door. It was not In accordance with tho Masonic signal, and an In vestigation was Immediately started hy the'tyler. A young man, very much out of breath, stood In front of the door. He said his name was Jphn Frank Kennedy. He also said -his fiance, Miss Clara Chtldres, and her father were waiting at the home of Rev. B. H. Phillips. The minister was wanted to perform tho marriage ceremony. Was ho In? The minister was In, and was tak ing an active part In the degree work, The Masons held a hurried consulta tion and decided to Invito the young man to have the ceremony performed In the lodge room. To this the swain agreed, and hurried off to the parson’s house to get his girl and her father. The trio soon appeared and the wed ding took place ns scheduled. The Masons showered congratulations up on the young couple. Remains of Mr. Benjamin Hood <Are Brought to Albany for Interment. t The remains of the late Benjamin Hood, of St. Augustine, Fla., were laid to rest tills morning In Oakview cem etery. The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Hood, of St. Augustine. He hud but fairly entered manhood’s es tate, Ills promising career being cut short before lie had reached his prime. His death occurred very suddenly. Tho remains were brought to Al bany lasLjiIglit, arriving over the At lantic Coast Line nnd being carried to the undertaking establishment of W. H. Wilder & Son, on Pine street. There the body, remained until 10 o’clock this morning, when the funeral was conducted by Rev. T. II. Thom son, pastor of the Methodist church The remains were laid to rest In Oak view cemetery. The deceased was a son of a former resident of Albany. Mr. G. E. Hood made this city his home a number of years ago. Ho Is a brother of the late Seaborn Hood, of this city, and is a man of standing In the community where he has made his home since leaving Georgia. Many Albanians who remember Mr. Hood deeply sympathize with him and his wife In the great sorrow which has come upon them In the death of their son. EIGHTEEN MINERS KILLED BY EXPLOSION. A Horrible Mine Disaster in West Virginia. ; Charleston, W. Va., Jan. 19.—All of the bodies have been recovered from the Detroit mines on Paint creek, where an explosion yesterday killed eighteen men. Tho condition of the bodies showed that the explosion came without warning and that death came to most of them from suffocation. Seven of the men were married and leave fam ilies. .
