COTTON LETTER, Albany, Ga., Jan. 23.—The market today was a repetition of all those that preceded It, with the trade look ing for one figure and that figure be ing exceeded. There Is no gopd rea son why the market nhotild have shown a decline of 40 points after the reading of the report, and thero Is no reason why the market .should not show u sharp rally tram present lev els. A giners’ of 16,000,0000 ginned to January 16 does’not Indicate a crop of more than 10,500,0000, and ns this is far below actual requirements, It Is Inevitable that higher prices, and much higher prices than we have seen will come before the crop Is finally marketed. It rests entirely with the holders of spots to say what the fu ture course of the market will be. CLARK & CO. Liverpool was unchanged on sales of 8,000 bales. Spots, 628. Early cables from the great English market were of the most encouraging character—for holders of cotton. Reports from the dry goods district showed Increased demand for cotton goods. The glnners’, of course, was the one absorbing topic of the day. It Is believed that Price will en. (leaver to assume leadership of the bulls. New York wires: ’’This market has all the earmarks of a big advance.’ Columbus, Ga., wired;’ "Holders of spots In this neck of uncut timber are very Indifferent about selling, and what few bales are being sold are on basis of 12 cents for good middling." The Denver syndicate says there Is no danger, of their getting cold damp feet, ns they have taken more than $500,000 out of the market this season. Well Bros.’ actual count of stocks In their territory. shows 21 per cent, less than same time last year. If the market starts up, don’t be too eager to guess the top, for she may Join the angels before paying^ another visit to Mother Barth. New Orleans wired: “Little cotton for sale In the ring today. It Is be lieved considerable realizing will take; place on the glnners—If bullish.’’ Boston reported yarn market very active, knitting yarns advancing with good demand. Northern spinners are reported to have sold three to four months ahead and In some Instances beyond that time. Liverpool was dull and Inactive during the day, closing one down.
