In the columns of The Herald a few days ago there appeared a telegraph dispatch from New York, containing the news of the sinking of tlie United States bark “Octavla" off the coast of Buenos Ayres, and stating that the American vice-consul, Daniel Mayer, was aboard. It was'learned only yesterday that the man who was drowned was an uncle of Mr. Daniel Mnyer, a well- known*reBldent of Albany. Mr. Mayer didn't notice the article himself. One of his .friends from the country told Mr. Mayer he had read of his death In The Herald, joking with him. Mr. Mayer inquired for the partlcularsi and the friend told him of the article. Mr. Mayer yester day investigated the flies of The Her ald and found.' under date of January January 15, the dispatch In question. He showed a clipping from a New York paper ot a few months back, containing an account of the death of the vice-consul’s wlfq.
