CONGRESSMAN GRIGGS’S LETTER.
We publish this evening the text of
a letter of Hon. James M. Orlggs, our
Immediate representative In congress,
to Mr. John A. Betjeman, secretary of
the Albany Business League, In which
the writer discusses the subject of
river Improvement on the Flint and
the prospect of deep water at Apa
lachicola, Fla., the port through which
the Flint, Chattanoocheo and Apalach
icola reach tho Oulf of Mexico.
Representative- Orlggs reaffirms that
Interest In the welfare of Albany and
the entire Second congressional dis
trict which he lias never failed to man
ifest, nnd none who knowB him doubt
that ho will put forth every legitimate
effort In the furtherance of the cam
paign for deep water at Apalachicola
and Improvements In the rivers which
lead to It. «'
Attention Is cnlled In the letter to
Hie fact, however, that “these lm
provoments come very slowly,” and
our coi)g!essman expresses the opin
ion that the cleaning out of Apalachl
coin Bay Is far more important, for
the present, than the deepening of
either of tho three rivers which pass
through It to t|)o sen.
