Just 27 miles from the classic city of Athens, Ga., is located the thriv ing little town of Maxey’s the residence of Mr. Robert Ward, who has just been released from the most perilous predicament, the particulars of which he has consented to give to the public. He writes tas follows: Maxey’s Oglethorpe Co., Ga!, July I. For 22 or 24 years I have been a great sufferer with a terrible form of Blood Poison (Syphilis), which ran into the secondary, and finally It was pronounced a terMary form. My head, face and shoulders became almost a solid mass of corruption, and finally the disease commenced eating away my skull bones. I became so horribly repulsive that for three years I absolutely refused to let people sae me. I used large quantities of the most noted blood remedies, and applied to nearly all physicians near me, but my condition continued tot grow worse, and all said 1 must surely die. My bones became the seat of excruciating aches and pains; my nights were passed In misery; I was reduced iu flesh and strength; my kid neys were terribly deranged, and life became a burden to me. I chanced to see an advertisement, of B.'B. B., and sent $1 to W. C. Birchmore & Co., merchants of our piace, and they procured one bottle for me. Jt was used with decided benefit 1 continued its u«e and when eight or ten bottles had been used was pronounced sound and well. Hundreds of scat’s can now be seen on me, looking like a man who had been burned'and then restored. My case is well known in this coun ty, au<J for the benefit of others who may be similarly affected. I think It niy duty to give facts to the public, and to extend my heartfelt thanks for'so valuable a remedy. I have been well over 12 months, and no re turn of the disease has occurred. * ROBERT WARD. Maxey’s Ga., July 1. We, the undersigned, know Mr. Robt. Ward, and take pleasure in stat ing that the facts as above stated by y him are true, and that his was one of the worst cases of Blood Poison wo ever knew in our county, and that he has been cured by the use of B. B. B.—Botanic Blood Balm. A. T. BRIGHTWELL, Merphant, JOHN T. HART, W. C. BIRCHMORE & CO., Merchants W. C. CAMPBELL. .1. H. BRIGHTWELL, M. D. Botanic Blood Balm (B. B. BLOOD BALM CO., Atlanta Ga. H. E. Harmon, in “Cotton.” Many people forget that there are two sides to the railway question. The South today is reaping a har vest of prosperity, a great part of this is the fru'it of seed sown by railways ten any twenty years ago. All the roads have encouraged the building of cotton mills by giving very low rates on machinery, on raw cotton and on the manufactured goods. Ev ery large road keeps a force of men to bring in new settlers, r.ew indus tries and new capital. See how the Southern railway brought western North Carolina, the Land of the Sky, to the attention of the world and made it one of the best known health re sorts anywhere. Over ten years ago Mr. T. M. Emer son, now president of the Atlantic Coast Line, but then traffic manager, got me to assist in interesting the farmers along the road in the Caro- Unas in tobacco culture. Cotton was then 6 cents a pound. The road en couraged tobacco growing in every way, and inside of ten years the to bacco crop along the Coast Line was f»0,000.000 pounds of the finest leaf in the world. The Central of Georgia has made Georgia the greatest of all peach-grow ing states. This company built branches into the orchards and with its connections runs fast special trains in the season to hurry the fruit to market. I have known the South ern to run a special with just one car of fruit, 200 miles, so that it would not be held over a few hours for a regu lar train Had it not been for Mr. Flagler’s in vestment of millions in building the Florida East Coast Road, all that part of the state would still be undevel oped, Inaccessible and thinly settled with a poor population instead of be ing as it is, a highly prosperous sec tion. He had to wait for years to get any return on his money while the fruit and vegetable growers got immediate returns on their investment. I could mention a dozen other roads which have done like work in helping to upbuild the South, but all of the instances would be along the same line ns the above. The Seaboard for years has kept a large force working all the time to build up industries and locate factories. The Illinois Central has done the same, so has the Atlanta & West Point, thjt Georgia, the Queen Sr. Crescent, the Louisville & Nash ville. the Mobile. & Ohio and others. The Louisville & Nashvile perhaps did more than any other factor in de veloping the great iron and coal indus try in Alabama, and yet for this work we have never heard that road or its officials given any credit whatever. ’I he Illinois Central has for years been foremost in developing the vege table growing business in the Miss- Isplnni Valley. When one looks squarely in the face of such results as I have pointed out above, and will allow his sense of jus tice to have 'any play whatever, it -.eenis impossible to arraign the rail roads as clients and common robbers. Every mill that has been built, ev ery orchard that ha's been planted has enhanced the value of every acre for miles around it, and millions of peo ple have shared In this enhanced value of property alone. And yet many of these people are the first to rise up and clamor, for legislation that would cripple the roads in.the great work they are doing.
