will Inject some of the elixir of life in
the market; some of the kind the New
York bears remember so well.
The trade generally admit that It
will be an all-year mark6t again.
The fight for labor Is as strong as
the fight fdr spots.
Port receipts today were 20,000 as
against 32,000 last year.
While we may have gradual breaks
of 20 to 30 points, the demand for
spots is too strong for t.ny material
break.

CLARK & CO.'S COTTON LETTER.
A determined effort was made to
raid the market soon after the open
ing, and, in a measure, success
crowned the efforts of the bold, bad
warriors. As soon as a crippled wire
service could be restored throughout
the South, supporting orders came in
which steadied the market some 12
points from low levels. At the mo-
jnent it is not easy to forecast the
market for the immediate future. Ad
vances seem to. uncover any amount
of selling orders, while resistance of
stubborn kind Is shown by holders of
spots. Spots must be offered freely
before we can hope to see very much
lower prices. At the moment the mar
ket might be said to be a waiting one,
with chances for scalping the market
on both sides. Liverpool is due 5 low
er tomorrow.

COTTON PICKINGS.
Furnished for Dally Herald Rehders
by Clark & Co.
Again Liverpool was better than exr
pected, taking 12,000 bales at 1 point
decline.
The offerings were heavy on our
opening, but the market absorbed
them well.
Harvie Jordan urges the friends of
the market stand “shoulder to
shoulder.”
It is generally believed that spot
holders will stand fire.
It is said the big New Orleans bulls
are patiently waiting for the enemies
of the market to oversell it, when they
Egyptian operators In Liverpool
were reported as confining their oper
ations to the Ame\l2an ring at the
moment.
Speculation is very dull at the mo
ment. The general public is waiting
for advance to buy on. They always
do.
Brown & Hayne are not bellowing
as loudly as they did some time ago.
Liverpool was rather dull after the
opening, arid closed C down.
Blessed sunshine! Once more we
have had two days of it, down here in
God's country.
