NEW YORK COTTON LETTER.
(Bally by Private Wtro to Clark & Co )
\ New York, Feb. 7, —A wire from
Atlanta says that President Harvie
Jordan, of the Southern Cotton Asso
ciation, gives out the following to
day:
"I have been definitely assured that
an. underwriting syndicate headed by
E. R. Thomas; and backed by the
strongest financial syndicate In New
York, will underwrite 600,600 bales at
13 cents. This proposition will not
Interfere with those spot holders who
desire to hold for 15 cents. I will
leave at noon for New York, and the
details of the syndicate will be fur
nished to the public within the next
forty-eight hours.
“But little spot cotton Is offering
east of the. Mississippi. Heavy re
ceipts In Texas can not continue much
longer, ns supplies there are practi
cally. exhausted. With the organiza
tion of a powerful syndicate to protect
the spot situation against the’ present
unwarranted bear raid, practically ev
ery halo of cotton remaining unsold
can be tied up. Supplies will run
short from now on as compared with
one year ago, and. there will, be no
necessity for marketing any of the
new crop before next October.”
C. D. FREEMAN & CO.
at unchanged prices. Their stock will
be exhausted some day—and then
some shorts will get shocked.
Our opening was very good, but
there appears to be little support of
the old kind to the market. -
This appears to'be an exceptionally
fine market for the outside public to
scalp. The market Is very narrow.
Increased crop estimates seem to be
gaining ground.
The day is near at hand when plant
ing the new crop will he discussed.
An Increased acreage will be best
for the market, as It means that some
cotton land will have to be aban
doned on account of scarcity of labor.
Selling on scale up and buying on
scale down appears to be the most
attractive thing in the market just
