New Orleans, Feb. 10.—The lack of any undue Influence, In so far os the American rings were concerned,' upon the foreign market was plainly visible in the Improved course of options throughout today’s session. The spot market was excellent, with reported Bales of 10,000 boles, and this, togeth er with the Improvement shown by the contract market in falling to meet the decline of American rings, is very encouraging. The closing of Liver pool, on account of a short day, when the local market opened and New York observing a holiday were the principal, causes for the scarcity of newB items. A very healthy situation exists in spots, with the demand con tinuing good and holders firm and not anxious to sell. Some 1,300 bales were done yeBterday after hours, making the total sales of that day well above average. Yesterday’s woelt-end visible supply statement was a little disappointing in not being as bullish ns expected. The mill tailings wore well over the previous week nnd could ho compared favorably with the corresponding weeks Inst year and year before, while the variations for the week, showing a totnl decrease of somo 69,000 bales, came nearer meeting expectations thnn nny other item of the statement. Unlike previous weeks, the past one has been unfavorable to farm work, on account of the sovero weather that has been prevalent throughout the South, and whilo this has no immedi ate bearing upon the present condi tions, it must not be forgotten that as days pass by, more attention is to be given by the trade generally to farm ing reports, as people are heartily sick of data concerning the present crop, having drawn their own conclusions from information nt hand. For the immediate futute the mar ket appears In a very uncertain state, but no particularly groat risk seems to~he involved In either buying on declines, or selling on advances. The Chronicle reported the week as generally unsatisfactory for prepara tion. Even should the crop exceed by a few thousand the popular estimates, there is little likelihood of any decline from present levels. Prices are more than satisfactory to spinners. Some cotton is Bure to be “shaken out" by Southern banks, and this will enable splners to pursue the hand-to- mouth policy they love so well. LARGE FERTILIZER SALES Salesman Says This Year’s Sales Will Exceed Any Previous Year’s. A popular fertilizer, salesman who lias been selling commercial guano in this territory for a number of years said to a Herald reporter yesterday that the sales of fertilizer this year would greatly exceed those of any previous season. “There have been stacks and stacks of fertilizer Bold this year,” he said, but the market has all gone to piccoB, so eager have been the manufacturers for big business and so keen has been tlie competition. The prices during the last few weeks have been out all to pieces. Every plant in the state will have its output taxed this season to fill the large sales ^at have been made.’’ It would seem from this statement that the farmers of the state are either going to plant more cotton and other crops this year or they are going to fertilize more highly what they plant. It is probably the latter cause that has so swelled tho fertilizer Bales, for It is not believed that the cultivated acreage in the state this year will ,bo greatly in excess of what It was in 1905. - Enairielware~~ Turquoise Blue and Steel.
