Though his guilt when made known to the world was no greater than It had been before, knowledge that the mask hqd fallen added a burden beneath which the unhappy, man was quickly crushed. In a few months, John A. McCall will have been forgotten. THE HERALD’8 MISFORTUNE. Ab the result of yesterday morning’s Are, which seriously crippled the plant of tho Herald Publishing Company, It Is necessary to ask the Indulgence of our patrons of all classes, and the pub lic generally. Thadks to the unflagging zeal of onr employes and to a fortunate combina tion of gratifying circumstances, we are able to Issue The Herald this evening In Its regular form. It ts probable that not a number will be mlBsed. It will be Impossible, how ever, to change advertisements for several days, and In this department we crave the patient Indulgence of our patrons. Practically all tho advertis ing type In the plant was either de stroyed or badly dnmageri. The Job department Is hors de com bat. The job presses are out of com mission, and there remains hardly a handful of serviceable job type. The Btock of stationery Is, fortunately, but slightly damaged. There will bo the least possible de lay In repairing the damage which tho plant has Buttered, and In a few days we will be able to fully accom modate our patrons. Already Is new type arriving, and other supplies will be Installed as rapidly as they can be secured. For such shortcomings as The Her ald may present during the next few days, we crave the public’s Indul gence. By the end of the week we hope to have our Job printing depart ment In full swing again, and will re store no^-mnl conditions In the news paper department ns soon as may be found practicable. Force! Perhaps the bride real ly does come first; then the gowns, next the presents, noxt the president- father, and, finally, Nick. The celebration of the anniversary of the Georgia Industrial Home Is at tracting the attention of the state to that splendid Institution. The time Is ripe for the suggestion, however, that attention ts less needed than the “sinews of war." which Georgians should be but too happy to supply. JOHN A. McCALL. John A. McCall, until a few.months ago president of tho Now York Life Insurance Co., died at tils home ta I-akcwood, N. J„ yesterday afternoon. A few months ago the passing away of this man would have been citron- idled throughout the world as a great loss to the Insurance and linuncinl in terests of this country. As the head of one of the greatest add richest in stitutions of the age. the operations of which ran Into the hundreds of mll- , lions. John A. McCall was pointed to as a man of extraordinary strength and ability. He vivas an imposing fig- fire In the affairs of the nation. More j .than all this, he was held up as a lAoddl of integrity and uprightness—a i man no more to be suspected of cor gi ; rupt practices than of stealing pennies . from a beggar.
