Chief of Police Westbrook took a
trip to Fort Valley last Sunday after
noon, which netted him nothing. The
chief was notified by wire that Alonzo
Mathis, a negro who had stolen some
goods in Sandy Bottom a few nights
before, had been arrested and was
held in Jail. The chiof went after
him. The Fort Valley chief met him
at the train, but he didn’t have the
prisoner. Just about an hour before
Albany’s chief arrived, the negro
broke out of Jail.
