NEW ORLEAN8 COTTON LETTER,
(By 'Wire to Clark & Oo.)
New Orleans;'March it.—Liverpool
gave ample proof of the influence oc
casioned by the bearish visible supply
statement of yesterday: Options lost
8 points from the previous day’s clos
ing, while spot transactions of 10,000
bales showed the spinners still want
cotton, despite numerous advices to
the contrary. CableB attributed the
decline, in a measure, to the liquida
tion of a scattered long interest, and
the absolute lack of any support at
the closing.
Newly acquired short commitments
and the closing of some long contracts
caused some eabiness-in the local mar
ket; but prices steadied in anticipation
of unfavorable weather forecasts for
today .and tomorrow: Trading, while
more aggressive than .for the past day
or so, was chiefly confined to scalping
elements. The week closes with the
two great departments of the trade at
variance. Spot holders show no in
clination whatever to put forth the
more attractive offerings, as long as
futures are so sensitively affected by
sentimental surface conditions. Fac
tors are fully aware of the fact that
the spinners still have remaining
twenty-five weeks in which to supply
themselves, and, judging by past per
formances and the fact that mills the
world over are running full time, have
no fear of the final disposition of their
possessions. The only unfavorable
condition that militates against an
otherwlse'evenly balanced and strong
situation is the indifference that the
purchasers display for the inferior
grades of cotton, but this also should
eventually work its own solution when
the spinner realizes that, either
through exhaustion or prohibitive vat
ues. he may be forced to confine him
self to those grades which are avail
able. We feel that the market should,
do somewhat better in the near future,
for we see nothing in the market to
warrant any further marked decline.
