THE ALBANY DAILY HERALDS THUR8DAY, MARCH 15, 1906. 50 Dozen 35c to $1.00 Men’s Fine SocKs at 25c a Pair We were‘fortunate enough to secure'a big importer’s sample line of men’s fine socks. We bought these socks at a ridiculously low figure, and we are giving you the advantage of our good trade. The lot contains both lisle and lace French and German hose in black and solid colors, fancy stripes and checks and embroidered figures. Not a pair in the lot is worth a cent less than 35c and many of them are worth as much as $1. We offer the entire lot of 50 dozen at 25c a pair. • , N ( - . '• Children’s White Lisle Hose, All Sizes, 18c Pair • Here is a large lot of beautiful quality white lisle stockings for children. They are slightly damaged, but are well worth 35 cents the pair. Many Stores would sell them at that price and say nothing about the little defects which you d scarcely notice unless you were told. But that’s not our style. We tell you they are damaged and offer them in all sizes at 18c a pair. / " ^ m Unequalled Wearing Qualities of H., J. & Co.’s Hosiery In offering these big special values in hosiery, we would not do you nor ourselves justice if we failed to call attention to the unequalled wearing qualities of our regular lines of men’s, women’s and children’s hosiery. Our unusual buying facilities enable us to maintain absolute supremacy in this line. Our regular 25c hosiery values are by far the best of fered in this section. Unequalled values offered in ladies’ laGe and lisle hose at 50c, 75c and $1.00. i r The Quality Store. Hofmayer, Jones ® Company. The Quality Store. : v - To plant unreliable seeds is to bury money. Come and see Me. C. M. CLARK, 24-lmo ' Agent ■ ■ .’.''V- ■y MR. RICHARDS WILL NOT BE HOME SUNDAY Because of Doctor’s Orders—Interest ing Letter from the Pastor of the Baptist Church. Charleston, S. C., March 12, 1906. Dear Bro. McIntosh: Let me say through The Herald, to many 1 cannot reach otherwise, that the pastor of the Baptist church can not be home, as he had hoped to be, on next Sunday. There has been no * “set back” In ray condition, beyond that already made known to my friends In Albany, but "specialists" demand the time and patience of their pa tients. And I am afflicted (?) with a specialist—a splendid fellow—but his glory is tarnished, in my view, when he tells me that I need a “guardian,” and that “preachers have piety, but no prudence; grace, but no gumption,” etc. This "specialist” says that he will assume the office of guardianship In my case, and Insist that I shall not attempt the journey to Albany this week. Oh, well, let him have his way for he Is going to discover that preach ers are persons with some sense and no cents, sometimes. t am gaining in strength every day, and am assured I can land In Albany by ,Sunday week, with a body and a mind and a heart, endorsed by a “specialist,” strong enough to reuew a work as minister', inspired by more expressions of love and encourage ment than I ever knew a preacher to have before, under like conditions. There were eight letters today—614 expressions in all by mail, since I left home. God bless my church people, my friends and admirers, far and near; their kindness has been enough to turn my head; but, as it is, it has only turned my hea't, with a more earnest desire to be really something for God’s'cause and humanity. Say all this for me, friend Herald, and tell the folk to write to me at No. 7 Pitt street, Charleston. S. C. Yours very sincerely, Wtt. L. RICHARDS. P. S. I am up and walking about all through^ these quaint old streets. There is much in Charleston that in terests any lover of our country’s his tory. But pale and weak as I am, I am ashamed to be much In public. R. / Albany Decorating Co., Wall Paper, Burlaps, ' Room Moulding and Picture Rail. Rumney Building. Phone 393. D. W. BROSNAN, Volunteer Observer. Secretary Taft’s relatives are said to be bitterly opposed to his accept ance of the Supreme Court appoint ment. They think he has an excellent chance to secure tile Republican nomi nation for President two years hence. In the event of his election, all the Taft connection would draw season tickets for seats at the pie counter, and—well, no wonder they don’t want him to go on the supreme bench. There is a good sprinkling of the politicians of the Second Congression al District in Albany today. Some have come to attend the meeting of the district Democratic committee, and others are here to “look on.” Bob White will now have a rest un til the first of November, except where the game law of the state is violated. The Philadelphia Record ,thinks the President is going to have a coal strike to settle, and serves him with notice that he might as well proceed to get busy. . Indigestion is much of a habit. Interest in the Last But One of Fa mous Cases Does Not Abate. The Standard Oil Company’s atti tude is one of defiance whenever there is talk of compelling it to give testi mony which it does not want to give. After a while the people will take Standard Oil by the throat and choke the life out of it, just as they will the rest of the trusts that are fast decid ing that the people have no right to live except by the grace of the corpor ations. Special to The Herald. In the superior court this morning, \ Charles H. ("Sap”) Dyer, an ex-police man, was placed on trial for the mur der of Policeman Patrick Kearney on | February 9, In front of the city hall, j This is the last case but one grow ing out of the famous shooting scrape. Young Tim McBride has been acqult- : ted for killing v Sap’s brother in the same trouble. There was the great est interest in the trial this morning. I Despite the fact that all the evi dence that can be Introduced except the prisoner’s statement has been re viewed several times in the newspa pers and heard four times before dif ferent tribunals, the public interest in the hearing does not seem to abate, i This is probably because of the strong I political current under the entire case. | 5yer wi)l claim that he shot to pro* • tect himself. i l The best safeguard against head ache, constipation and liver troubles Is DeWitt’s Little Early Risers.
