A large edition will )>e printed for circulation throughout the state, and will appear at the logical hour— exactly one week before tbe opening of Chautauqua. The merchants and business men of Albany generally have not been slow to manifest their appreciation of this special edition aB an Incomparable ad vertising medium. The demand for space In Its pages bas been remark able, and the advertising patronage of the paper will be In keeping with Its other features. Allens' negro minstrels was the alleged attraction In this city last night, the minstrels showing under canvas at the old Halcyon lot at the corner ot Broad and Jefferson streets. Despite the heavy rains of yesterday, which prevented giving an afternoon performance, a large crowd turned out at night, the crowd consisting for the most part of negroes, of course. Al len's minstrels Is up to the usual stan dard ot canvas shows ot this kind, pleasing the negroes, for whom the performance Is given. Splendidly Appointed Build ing Which Houses Ma chinery of the Albany Pow er a Manufacturing Co. The big powerhouse of the Albany Power and Manufacturing Co., on the Muckafbonee creek, Just north of the city, has been practically completed, the only work remaining to be done being the removal of debris and the making of certain changes In the ar rangement-of the machinery, switch boards, etc. / The powerhouse Is an interesting building. From the cement floor to the apex of the. roof la a matter of 60 feet. From a point near the main entrance an Iron stairway leads down Into the machinery room, where two big generators are In position. The house is perfectly lighted, and the arrangement leaves nothing to be desired. The construction of the walls Is massive. They are ballt ot cement reinforced with Iron, being capable ot withstanding tremendous pressure. Since the plant was put In operation last October, one generator has been continually In operations- It has run day and night, furnishing current for the lighting of the city’s streets and buildings and for turning the wheele of Industrial plants. It develops a maximum of about 800 horsepower. Another generator that Is the exact duplicate ot the one put In commission last October Is now In position, and In a few days will relieve Its companion. The latter will then be thoroughly cleaned and overhauled, after which the two will alternate in service until the demands upon the planfbecome sufficient to requite the simultaneous operation ot both machines. There are berths In the powerhouse for two more generators, and It will probably be but a short time before these v^lll have to be Installed. There will be great demand for the electric power now available, especially when a street car line Is put In operation.
