Indeed, it was a most emphatic ^ demonstration of a delfehip which this 4tore has always maintained and which is recpgnized as placing H., J. & Co.’s Quality Store to itself in Southwest Georgia. - , ; in a “The most beautifill opening the store has ever had.” This is the way most of the women expressed themselves after their first bursts of enthusiastic admiration over the wealth of loveliness that greeted them at our formal opening of spring and summer millinery. Even for tho^e who expected most of us, there was surprise in the true elegance of the goods and the unprecedented size of the*stocks. The great collection, of spring and summer hats would do credit to any city store in the South. Miss Edwards arid her assistants have been showered with congrat ulations. The ; cleverness evidenced by the many attractive hats from our own work rooms speaks more convincingly of their ability than could we here. Just one suggestion to those who desire to plan their own hats. Place your orders now before the rush of the advancing season. Our large stock of untrimmed shapes and beautiful trimmings, together with the conspicuous ability of our milliners, aside from any considera tion of prices, which are the lowest, are reasons sufficient why you should place these orders at this store. Arrivals of Spring Goods Are Rounding Stocks Into Completeness Each day brings stacks and stacks of new suits, waists, silks, woolens, wash goods and dress accessories into the store. Not much <is lacking now to round the stocks into a completeness that will be at once gratifying to us and satify- ing to our friends andrtustomers. The Quality Stt Albany, Georgia. Lynching of the Negro, Ed Johnson, at Chattanooga May Make Serious Trou ble for Somebody. Atlanta Constitution Special. Washington, March 20.—A thorough investigation Into the lynching of the negro, Ed Johnson, at Chattanooga, last night Is to be made bjr the federal authorities, and such Investigation lq fraught with possibilities of- trouble for somebody. The case is a most unusual one from the federal standpoint. When the mob lynched Johnson the majesty (ft an order of the United States Su preme Court staying the legal execu tlon of the prisoner was outraged For the Arst time in the history ol' the country a mandate of the Supreme Court was nulUAed. If It can be proven that this re sulted from the action ol'-larity of any otHcial, the sheriff of Hamilton coun ty, or anybody else, suhh oAlclals will be hailed before the federal courts for punishment. - Mr. Justice Harlan, who Issued the stay of execution In the Johnson ease, called at the White House this after noon, but It Is stated he did not see the President. While the announce ment Is made that he did pot go for the purpose of conferring wrth refer ence to the Johnson case,' I have it from high authority that It was his purpose to discuss the case with the Prsldent for the purpose of having the Department of Justice take prompt action through the federal authorities at Chattanooga for Investigation look ing to prosecution. Acting Attorney-General Fn>dy said tonight that the department has al ready begun consideration of the case, but It Is so unusual no determination has yet been reached as to the method of procedure. Justice Harlan grant ed a stay In* the Johnson case on Sat urday and his action was conArmed by the full court at yesterday's session. Justice Harlln himself w|red the federal judge, the state judge who tried Johnson, and the shoriff of Ham ilton county, Tennessee, a synopsis of the order and Instructed that Johnson be retained In custody until the case was disposed of here. The Supreme'Court havlitg taken a recess until April 1, no action can be taken by that body before then. It is not probable, however, that the court would take any aqtjpn lu ad vance of Investigation to be made through oAlelals of the Department of Justice.
