':;By wire to Clark A Co. Nev^ Orleans, March 23. — Foreign news was all of a more favorable char- atcer, and' sentiment showed a de cided change so far as the expected reaction that the Liverpool market looked for was concerned. In options a gain from the previous, day of 4 points was recorded, and there waa considerable buying on the curb. Spot saleB continue well up, tboae for the day being 16,000 bales, at unchanged prices. The manipulative interacts that played euch an important part In yesterday’s proceedings were again present today. Opening prices were higher and continued so throughout the session, advancing steadily on the bullish opinion with which the bne- tlme bear leader flooded the local market. The expected favorableness of the supply statement also Induced some little buying, which In a meas ure was augmented by forecasts for some more wet weather over the belt. Port receipts, while heavy, were con Blderably augmented by the cotton re ceived on the Pacific coast, at Port Arthur nnd at Brunswick, a condition doubtless omnnatlng from the some what free way In which the interior hns let go of cotton on the recent ad vance. The decline in receipts and stocks nt different points in the coun try bears out this fact unmistakably. To what extent the converted convic tions ol' the former New York bear op erators aro sincere, can only be a mAt- tor "of conjecture 1 , hut there is a rea sonable nmount of certainty that the Influence that ho has exerted in for mer times will stand him In good stead In his present reported campaign. Sur face conditions, ns before noted, have caused n reversal of opinion, likewise ■In the vtows formerly entertained by the trade generally, nnd it seems prob able htnt a further advance will be witnessed, but a policy of Strict con servatism should be closely adhered to as at .this season, without continued unfavorable reports from the new crop, constant support will be necessary to either ndvanec or sustain current prices. GIBERT & CLAY Buying orders for the new bull clique sent prices up 10 points soon after our -opening. Just think how BEARISH the gln- ners' would have been had Price been a bear. Litters will be in demand when the present Bull Army decides to break camp. “The market will take care of it self.”—Freeman.
