Liverpool was again disappointing this morning, the loss In values being, attributed In early cables to some gen eral profit-taking. Further losses were witnessed throughout the session, and on the close options were lower by six points from the previous day’B level. Spot sales also showed a falling oft, but at a loss of only one point, 8,000 hales covering the day’s business. Liquidation Beemed to he the .order of the day, and this accounted for the lower opening In the local market, hut a slight recovery later occurred on the further unfavorable condition of the weather map over the belt. The lack of any speculative Interest, however, caused prices to rule dull and narrow an,d the only Impairment to the mar ket’s undertone was tracoable, to the absence of the heretofore prevailing demand for spot cotton. The heavy port receipts today hear witness to the fact of the large liqui dation of spot cotton in the Interior and which was doubtless brought about by the recent advance In prices. It Is generally conceded thnt very lit tle If any of this cotton Is to be added to the stocks at ports, hut is destined though to fill prompt shipments. The halting attitude which the market has assumed lit the face of what was con sidered to be n strong manipulative In terest hns caused a decided lack of confidence on the part of outside spec ulation, a condition which to be shak en off seems to depend largely upon reports of the progress of the new crop, therefore a return to scalping op erations seems the best course to pur sue. * GIBERT & CLAY. Atlanta, Ga., March 27. — Charged with attempting to criminally assault Lollio Belle Ward, daughter of the Rev. Dr. A. C. Ward, pastor of the Temple Baptist church, Ed Adams, the negro Janitor of the Walker street public school, was arrested yesterday afternoon and sent to police barracks. In a cell at headquarters the prisoner said he did not know why he had been arrested. It Is alleged that the atempted as sault occurred in the cloak room of the school. The little girl screamed and the other pupils rushed Into the room. Intense excitement prevailed for a time.' The police were notified. The negro’s arrest followed.
