BOOZE FROM ALBANY
SEIZED IN MOULTRIE.
Special to The Herald.
Atlanta, Ga., April 4.—A company
with a capital stock of $100,000 has, it
Is understood, been formed for the
purpose of building a big vaudeville
theatre on Peachtree street, next to
the Aragon hotel, on the site of the
present Peachtree Auditorium. Plans
for the theatre have been drawn and
work on the new playhouse will begin
next month. The land is owned by
Asa Candler, who built the Candler
building, the biggest skyscraper in the
city. There is a brick residence In
front of the Auditorium. This will
be torn down and will give the the
atre building a frontage of 125 feet
on Peachtree street. The theatre will .
be of brick and stores will occupy that'
portion on either side of an arcade
which will run through from the ‘Jtreet
to the theatre auditorium. James P.
Anderson, proprietor of the Auditori
um, has leased the property for a term
of years. He says it is the purpose
of those interested in the deal to pre
sent polite vaudeville exclusively.

“Mayor Monk has in his possession

"The whiskey was located in a ne
gro house a day or two ago and was
‘confiscated.’ The merchandise came
from Albany addressed to Ed Fowler,
a negro that has been serving a term
in the penitentiary for the past six
months, and, the police having their
suspicion aroused by the address,
watched the delivery. It was taken
by a hackman and delivered in one of
the little houses belonging to Mr. Z.
H. Clark, the negro who inhabits the
house being away from home. When
the tenant camtv in he was nabbed
and the case of whflskey was also
taken, but it being addressed to an
other man, the negro in charge could
not be convicted. The hackman said
he had instruction from the negro to
deliver the goods, but the negro de
nied this, and so there was little to be
accomplished further than to hold the
whiskey, which the police did.”

To The Herald:
The article on house numbering in
The Herald of Saturday, presents the
matter very clearly. This method of
numbering, known as the “centenhial
system," is used In very many cities
of the country, large and small, where
the regularity of the streets will ad
mit of It. Its simplicity and conven
ience are evident. About a year ago
I furnished a statement to the City
Council, giving the quantity of num
bers of each denomination which
would be required to number the en
tire city, on a basis of 26% feet to
the uumber in the business section,
and 52% feet in the residence portion.
But it would be better to allot 26%
feet for the entire city. As the city
blocks are multiples of an acre, 26%
feet to the number would be required
to come out even.
