S. Gay, of 20 Currie street, was de stroyed, and the Peachtree Inn, In the rear of which was situated the burned barn, was the scene of Intense excite ment. The hotel gueBts were thrown Into a panic until they'discovered that the Are was not In the building. A line bird dog and a costly carriage were burned, and a fine horse which was seared by the fire escaped and has not been found. GOOD PROMOTERS. Titer Sin,l live f-o-vni- of to- ■pirtug Confidence: A story Is told about a young felTow who applied at a big bunking estab lishment for a position and who upon being told that all the clerkships were filled said quite confidentially, ‘‘I’ve never, worked at the promoting busi ness, but can’t yow send me to some friend of yours who needs a pro moter?'' Strange indeed It is that almost ev ery one of the successful promoters of the present day is a man who went Into the exceedingly difficult work with scarcely more preparation than had gone the venturesome yo-ntb of this yarn. > Gifted with good address control of the English language, fluency of speech and determination, a man who em barks in the field lias In his possession the qualities that have made many promoters rich and powerful. Many of them were lawyers to begin win-,. Others were life insurance agents. One or two sold stock iu a small way. Gradually each o f these men came to see that carHtvv. out a new way for himself would give him a wider and more substantial future. And then at that moment the promoter was born. But whether these promoters have wou their spurs by orgs>dzlug big con cerns or corporations .r by selling those already In the field there Is not one of them but will tell you that most of fits success was due to his power to Inspire confidence. A promoter that cau’t make'“the other ftdlojv” believe In’ him and In hls proposition might better be cleaulng the streets.- He never will succeed. The successful promoter must ot? able not only .to look men In the eye, but he must also be able to face the post discouraging circumstances and fight his way through them. “Fall” Is a word the meaning of which he must never leayn. And the rewards? They range from millions to a fee of $7 that was ouce paid to a promoter who successfully promoted the amalgamation of two competing bootblacking establishments. —San Francisco Chronicle.
