Editor Herald:
Give me about an Inch and a half, or
more, possibly, of your valuable space
to say a word to the man of the side
walk. That word Is this: Don’t make
the strangers, who do not want to be
strangers, feel that they are. because
nobody even nods to them.
I have written The Herald a little
article on this subject, but I have con
cluded not to burden your columns
with it, but will use the idea as a pre
lude to my sermon tomorrow night. It
seems to me that If our “Business
League” succeeds in securing people
to take a peep at our town It is a
small matter for the Individual citizen
to hall them with a cheery good-morn
ing or a howdy, as we- pass them,
whether we know them or not. Some
people refuse to speak to others be
cause they think they know them; oth
ers because they think they do not.
Both are mistaken. We all know each
other better than we acknowledge,
and we all know less of each other
than we are always willing to confess.
But more tomorrow night. I am
simply Baying, now, no man likes to be
a stranger, and Albany wants none In
her midst, If all her efforts for prog
ress are honest.
I am recently out of a strange city
and a hospital, and It is a glad thing
to move down a street of friends and
hear the sweet old southern “how-
dies.”
Fellow-citizens, If a man Is a strang
er In our beautiful city, and Is looking
for a home, remember that a “howdy”
Is better oftlmes than a letter from
Secretary Betjeman; stronger to hold
his heels fast to our pavements than
the power plant current; sweeter than
our flowers; more engaging than fair
women; and, even business outlooks,
men outmeasure with a “howdy" some
times. But pardon my demand upon
your space, Bro. McIntosh; but “how
dy” lh a long word to a man who
greets The Herald after an absence
like mine has been.
Say It all for me, and mark me as
ever. Yours obliged,
WM. L. RICHARDS,
Pastor Baptist Church.
P. S.—There Is a dignified reserve,
closely classified with the mummy,
which some people assume from a
fear of being known as a monkey—
but more tomorrow night. W. L. R.

Given Up to Die.
B. Speigel, 1204 N. Virginia St,, Ev
ansville, Ind., writes; ’’For over five
years I was troubled with kidney and
bladder affections which caused me
much pain and worry. I lost flesh and
was all run down, and a year ago had
to abandon work entirely. I had three
of the best physicians, who did me no
good, and I was practically given up
to die. Foley’s Kidney Cure was rec
ommended and the first bottle gave
me great relief, and after taking the
second bottle I was entirely cured.”
