Options showed no change from yesterday's closing prices and sales of spots at a point advance were only 8,00/ bales, conditions that doubtless led one source of Information' to be lieve that trade conditions in Man chester had seen their best days for tills season. Today, the first May tender day, found some few notices circulating, and they, after a reasonable period of time, were stopped. The liquidation of this month and the transferring of contracts Into July and lntor months, afforded the market some Increased ac tivity, but the lower range of values in’ the earlier trading came more from the fact that both Liverpool and New York were selling In the latter market, than the advent of any news of a bearish character. The excellent spot situation tended to create a more de cided Inclination to favor higher prices, which were late brought about by extensive short covering. From the fast diminishing receipts both at ports and Interior points, It Is reasonable to assume that statistics henceforth will become decidedly more favorable, but on the other hand the powerful Influence that the weather exerts on the growing crop must not be forgotten, and ns long as it remains seasonable, It will take ail of the strength that the spot market can command to cause anything more than a temporary Improvement.
