Columbus at Americus. Valdosta at Waycross. Saturday afternoon at the ball park, after two innings of play in a driz zling rain, Umpire Me Grath waved the players' off the field, and himself hot-footed it to the grandstand. After h few minutes it was soon seen that the game could not be resumed, and the players went home. The “shelter of the grandstand” was nominal only, the wind driving in the rain all the time and from all Bides. Everybody got wett There was a distressingly small crowd out—no crowd'at'all', you might say. When the game was called off the score stood X to 0 in Albany’s favor. Collier was in the box. Dudley caught and McCormick gazed at the grand stand from right field. Beyond that, there were no changes in the Albany line-up. Norcum, instead of Lavender, and Reagan, instead of Poole, at sec ond, made the difference in the Cor dele line-up. The rain came lust' when there was a chance for us to win. The score at the end, of the. second seemed to sur prise everybody. on your bed ? The result of this change Is that In stead of Columbus playing In Albany on Thursday, Friday and Saturday of this week, Albany will play In Colum bus on those dates, and the Mill Qlty bunch will come to this burg for three contests on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. This exchange of dates has been made at the lnstanee of the manage ment of the Columbus team. There is to be a half holiday on Thursday In the hamlet by the Chattahoochee, and the argument Is presented that there will be a record-breaking crowd to see the game. Interest lu the new league Is high over that way, and this Is a golden opportunity not to be thrown away. Albany has something to gain and nothing to lose by tbe exchange, and there was little hesitation on the part of Manager Alexander In accepting It. Therefore, “the bunch” which is do ing Albany’s scrambling for the bit of silk rag tied to the end of a stick and held before the dancing orbs of six cities, will, after having It out with Cordele and Jupiter Fluvlus today, to morrow and Wednesday, buy tickets for the capital of Muscogee and “get they hence.” It will be the first time these two particulaT teams have tried each other’s mettle, and the trial will be watched with great interest. And when the boys get back home for the opening on Monday they will bo greeted by all the rooters In the community. The game next Monday afternoon will draw a record crowd— provided, of course, the locals make anything like a respectable showing during the two series to be played to the. mean time. And it may be stated'with absolute confidence that the locals are- deter mined to take at least a majority of the games they play ftwdy from home save if you order your Boat through a carload will be placed by the middle of next week. He was Jerking the bad one over the plate, when his umps yelled out: “That will cost you $5." When Osment came up, a Cordele fan yelled; "Five dollars for a three- bagger.” But a grounder to Lovelace was all he could do, and he never reached first. The Bacon Equipment Company, Albany, Ga.
